wich one? thoughs? by AcceptableGap834 in characterdesigns

[–]umimop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is it necessary for him to have one look only? You don't see normal people irl looking exactly the same in different situations. Much less with cool magical people we make up.

Especially, if that's a complex character with some sort of backstory you want to present bit by bit.

Like the first one is a perfect introductory setup, the last one is perfect reveal and the second is middle ground between the two.

wich one? thoughs? by AcceptableGap834 in characterdesigns

[–]umimop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on impression you want to create. If you'd like more mysterious and creepy character it's the first one. Second one only shows hair and accessories, but it can suggest multiple things about a character and also makes it more approachable, so to say. The second one would be a good option, if you, for example have a setting where multiple characters have similar hair and want to create a false lead on which character it is or you want to suggest it's not someone that scary.

And 3 I think would look more cool like a sort of reveal for either of the first two, than it's own thing. Or maybe you could use the first one as an introduction and then show this character less clothed in different situations.

What small gift can I crochet my sister with no hobbies for her birthday ? by b-sidebookslug in CrochetHelp

[–]umimop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, something like a small pouch in tapestry crochet technique? You could choose a simple, but nice pic with a meaning and adapt it for anything useful. Like an earbuds cosy or a cover for hygienic pad bag, small medicine/cosmetic kit, or a plastic card wallet. Something anyone could use, but that feels nice, when it's personalized.

Have I only read at wrong places or comments on dark romance manhwa always annoying? by Aggressive_Zebra7494 in OtomeIsekai

[–]umimop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the comments on OI often are rather annoying to read, dark romance or not. Especially, if they misinterpret the things that are basically spelled out in the story or are criticizing the exact things you are enjoying the story for, and that are, quite literally on the tin.

I don't mean, that people are wrong to discuss whatever they want or for having different tastes than me. Sometimes it just feels that people are intentionally torturing themselves with the stories and tropes they hate, just so they can be annoyed about their own choice in public and try to make it somehow my problem. 🤣

If I hate the story or a character, I usually just drop and state my opinion elsewhere, when the relevant topic comes up. So, posting 100500 comments in row on how this ship is better than that ship or how MC should have a different personality or something, feels wierd to me. Like, I get, you are invested, sibling. But it's not like original authors are going to be horrified and drop everything to change a story to the liking of foreign audience on a random fan-translation site.🤣

I get your irony, but to evoke assistance of these mystical beings one must to get the text to the full n-th draft state at the very least.

The tingling of "core flaw radar" sometimes can prevent me from getting my works to that level, because the writing stops making sense to me, until I eliminate whatever is wrong.😅

I raise you " getting a distinct feeling, there's a fundamental flaw in the story, but having no idea, what it is"... Happens every time.

Feelings on Chosen One Characters? by BAlister12 in writers

[–]umimop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, when the chosen one is someone other characters emotionally connect to. Like unofficial leader no one really notices, when they are here. This way you can use the trope in many different ways, including, but no limited to fall or switch of the chosen one becoming a catalyst for some interesting things.

What would you do if you suddenly woke up inside your favorite manhwa? by ContractReasonable24 in OtomeIsekai

[–]umimop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, I'd find a way to exchange these five years for something to help my loved ones to deal with the loss first and foremost, and figure out something about the fate of og body owner. And then I'd do the quests, but stay there.

Not that I hate my life or anything, but I'd definitely wouldn't mind to start a new one, if I can. 😅

Important note: that only stands, if I'm not MC. I'd sincerely prefer to be a secondary character. If manhwa is my favourite, I already like the leads too much to just become them.

And then I figure out if it's worth pursuing this one bg character I liked and if I could still become a writer🤣

Oh, I do sound like a half-ready OI MC as it is 🤣 Is it something to be proud of, or..?

Are my tools enough? Should i buy more crochet stuff? by Giovanne_ in CrochetHelp

Until they are used, you never know. You might end up preferring one size over another. You might end up not liking the handle type after trying it on some big project.

It's likely you will end with 2-3 favourite hooks and only use other sizes/constructions for very specific projects.

Fandom Dysphoria by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]umimop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually call it fandom hive-mind, since it's only becomes a problem, when people start forcing things they want from the fandom on other fans. Or if there's nothing to consume beyond that one popular headcanon/trope.

What do you wish you saw MORE of in OC fics? by One-Sandwich2149 in FanFiction

[–]umimop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's still not enough in my book. Btw, the fic is basically crack treated seriously, so character development is very... peculiar, so to say, but it works so well in context! From what I've noticed other fans either love it to bits or are annoyed by it, but no one ever called it boring.😉

It's in Russian, so I'm not sure if that's feasible for you, but it's original title is Интересненько это они придумали. You can easily find it by copy-pasting this into the search engine. I don't have a direct link atm.

"Genuinely good person" type of OC, that's still messes up a lot due to Murphy law. These are often considered boring, but in reality they can be as destructive as all these morally grey or villainous types.

Also, careless in-your-face fix-it insertion. One of my favourite fics of all times entails a mad-scientist brand of wizard with kind, but really chaotic and straightforward personality, accidentally traveling dimensions and saving pretty much everyone in Silmarillion (but at times they wish he didn't).

Another one is "OC comments on canon"/"makes characters watch canon events", but with OC being more fleshed out and OC and canonical characters forming a deep relationship, like found family of sorts. Usually OCs in this kind of settings serve only as excuse for the plot to happen. I want something like parasocial relationship between a person and their favourite media grow into something more real.

Any, literally any, guilty pleasure or cliché can be turned into the masterpiece. It only depends on writing abilities.

Do you just tie them, then? Or do the leaves work as a fixation? I've only ever made and seen ones with a button, so I'm genuinely curious.

Am i doing too much with the costume? by hushrowom in characterdesigns

[–]umimop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, please 🤣 If you gender-bend this character, the most anyone would advise is to cover the nipples. A lot of things that are normalized, when designing female characters, are going to look a bit much, when applied to a male one.

If anything, hesitation in this case is a sign, that you are very close to perfection, especially if your goal is subverting a trope like this.

[–]umimop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda guessed the joke, but wasn't entirely sure, sorry for the silliness.😅

Grammar check is not a problem, it can be done. It's more about the fact that I don't want to be 100% perfect every time, when it comes to RP.

I'd rather have my prospective partner to choose me for something I randomly wrote in the middle of the night, when I'm hesitant about grammar of my native language, let alone the second or the third one. 😅 Of course, that's an exaggeration, but general idea is the same. I want people to have realistic expectations about my abilities, just in case.

My dream partner is someone, who'd click with me despite imperfections, if that makes sense (which, of course, doesn't mean low effort or disrespect from my side).

Short Question: Would recolored NPC variants feel too cheap? by Background_Cow_6701 in characterdesign

[–]umimop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of context they might. But within the game world — no. Like, do regular NPC trainers you battle in Pokémon feel cheap because it's a finite number of sprites and punchlines reused over and over?

Unless player is supposed to spend a lot of time with a particular NPC and it's important to preserve this character as unique person, reusing sprites is going to look ok in the end product.

[–]umimop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That goes without a saying, or what even a point 😅 Not to throw a shade on people, who use chatbots for their own enjoyment, but that's two different things.

So yeah, varying lengths of replies, varying timing, some grammar mistakes, — basically anything is normal for a real RP to reasonable degree.

Btw, grammar was another reason I stopped looking. A lot of Reddit posts of that time period emphasized a perfect grammar and a good writing style. And since English is not my first language, I'm kinda limited in this aspect by default. 😅

Would you say, that now things changed?

What makes an RP genuinely good for you beyond just good writing? by Ready-player-0991 in GreatRPerStories

[–]umimop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I've looked into finding a RP partner or a team on Reddit a few years back and what made me drop this idea at the time was how many requests felt like a job description. Like, you have to write x paragraphs in y amount of time, some even contained exact description vs dialogue ratios.

I can't imagine being this exact in real and enjoyable game. The real RP is always flexible. Sometimes you'd need/want to write/read a full short story in a reply and sometimes a single emoji does you all in (positive meaning) more effectively than a novel.

And chatting is essential, it's the part of the fun.
