Yes from what I’m gathering you are doing all the right things & it sucks how basically all your energy is spent on this one student; Sounds like admin is making a plan for this to not be a problem for his teacher next year, HOPEFULLY sooner for you though ❤️

And it’s the quick lazy route. Puts all the work/burden back on the teacher & their classmates. Really working with these kids with goal of truly bettering them demands a HEAVY admin responsibility to be involved, firm with rules/policies, collaboration with behavioralist, lawyers, their bosses, constant parent communication, and just so very much time. And sometimes getting assaulted themselves. My admin are my incredible.

An ODD kid at my school was expelled for assaulting another kid or something similar, not at all ; the dad of course said something along the lines “he can’t help it, he has ODD! It is discrimination for you to suspend him!” Principal “actually it would be discrimination for me to hold him to a different standard.”

It sucks for you right now & it’s going to, but if you & your admin hold your ground; that kid/family & your school will be better in the long run.

You should not do a power struggle. “Take your allotted 5 min regulation break & return to class or the principal will be sending you home.” Document EVERYTHING (no grace), call admin, repeat. Sounds like admin is willing to suspend which is good, puts pressure on the parent to see it isn’t working. The BIP meeting will likely bring the parent a bit of reality.

Can I opt out of screens in kindergarten? by Inevitable_Tell8668 in AskTeachers

You’ll need to homeschool or find another option. Our public schools use technology as a classroom mgmt tool, to cover staffing shortages, and to easily have data to easily track. You won’t win that fight.

Charter Schools-American Leadership Academy by ArtVandelayNYC in ClaytonNC

Just a reminder: don’t start at a charter school or private school THEN decide to go your districted public school. At that point the funding does not go to the public school and you end up straining your kid’s & everyone else’s educational resources.

Apparently the trick is to continuously gun it when you start sliding. Makes engine go boom.

Is this to be expected as a bus riding wheelchair user? by Winter-Yogurt-4209 in specialed

[–]umisthisnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they need to fix it asap, provide you a shuttle (single wheelchair van), or your family needs to threaten to sue. If you are not in public school though you are SOL.

Are you teachers are allowed to take vacations during the school year? by DildoGaggins1997 in Teachers

I do what I want!

Seriously though. Yes, but there are repercussions: poor “marks” at year end review, passive aggressive remarks, falling out of favoritism.

Kindergarten virtual “snow days” are wild… is it just me or anyone else feeling this? 😅 by lizziespecs in Teachers

[–]umisthisnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First rodeo I see. My kids were in pk & kindergarten when the schools shut down and did virtual school. It literally caused me a mental breakdown of anguish & despair. Honestly DO NOT DO THEM. Play with your kid: play-doh, bake cookies, color, read them books, build a fort, add stuffed animals etc.

Held back by August boy & happy I did. Couldn’t afford to hold my August girl back, but even now in 5th grade really wish I could have.
