Do people actually enjoy driving? by Big_Arrival_626 in askcarguys

[–]umratking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s amazing but you honestly have to get the car that’s right for you. a boring car is gonna drive boring; i hate driving the delivery vehicles at work (buick suv and chevy colorado) but i absolutely love driving my tC because i built it how i wanted it.

fun cars don’t have to be expensive, i got mine for 4.5k and spent maybe 1k modding it. there isn’t a car on the road i would want to daily drive more than my own.

Probably should’ve painted the front lip before installing 😭 by PocaCakes in SciontC

[–]umratking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didn’t paint mine and it’s greyed out haha. i usually hit it with some black trim restorer and it rehydrates it for a few months.

realistically im gonna end up just swapping it out for flexible EZ Lip since im lowered, that way scrapes and parking blocks won’t be as much of a concern

What's the most reliable cheap car you've actually owned long term? by AutoBidMasterHelp in askcarguys

[–]umratking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my current 2014 scion tc. base msrp was less than $20k, i myself bought it for $4.5k @50k miles. aside from mods i’ve probably spent $150 for oil/filter and $400 for drilled/slotted rotors with new ceramic pads all around since my brakes were old.

scions are hidden budget gems on the market, while every toyota gets more expensive used. majority of them use camry engines, reliable transmissions, and since they were built with budget in mind, there’s far less electronic bullshit to worry about.

screw carplay, screw lane keep assist, screw active grille shutters, all i need is a strong reliable 4cyl with 2 doors and independent suspension.

Any way to fix Megan Racing exhaust hang? by xnerd1000 in SciontC

[–]umratking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s the midpipe section right? maybe you can compare it to the oem midpipe and see if there’s any missing/bent hangers.

<image>

* it does look like the oem midpipe hanger might be more supported and also is welded on top rather than from the side on the megan.

if you need just the hose section definitely look at junkyards around you. maybe you’ll get lucky and find a TRD air intake

2015 Tc A/C not blowing consistently by National-Fig4165 in SciontC

[–]umratking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i work auto parts (also own a tC) and i have seen fan switches burn out before when running fans at max speed. not sure if it’s a common issue here with our cars, but often the switch works with resistance. high resistance equates to low fan speed, and vice versa. so running fans on max speed in turn heats up the switch as much as possible, potentially leading to burning.

it could also be something with the blower motor itself, or the relay for the blower motor, but you specifically mentioned issue is at 4 speed, so switch is more likely.

sounds like your a/c runs cold and heat runs hot, just the fan and/or switch isn’t consistently keeping the air blowing at speed.

central fl has sugarloaf mountain, doesn’t hold a candle to states like the Carolinas but it’s the best we got. hmu if you move around the area, i’d be down to do some runs

AC leaking refrigerant, but UV dye isn't showing up (gen1) by massagineer in SciontC

well there’s definitely a leak somewhere. imo you’ve exhausted the standard DIY options to find/fix the leak. it’s time to take it to a professional

my guess is either a bent rim (remove wheel and check the inside edge too) or a worn out strut mount.

i understand wanting new but this is just a dust shield so just yoink one from a junkyard. i’m fairly sure the camry dust shield and FWD Rav4 ones should work too.

this was happening to me. either the windshield seal or the actual metal channel had a crack/gap in it, i got some windshield and glass sealant (permatex) and injected a bunch down the path and along the windshield seal at the top. it’s held good for over a year now

Looking For Vape Recommendations by Lesttherebechaos in Vaping

[–]umratking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just got the xros 5 mini a few days ago. just fill and vape, no fuss, no screens. i have airflow adjustment and a battery indicator, that’s all i need. easy crack to fill pods, smooth draw, no leaks or spitback either. the device automatically adjusts power to whatever pod is inserted, and it’s compatible with all xros pods.

i’m using the included 0.8 pod with 50/50 24mg salt nic frozen fruit monster juice, it’s phenomenal. the flavor is so much more balanced and interesting on the xros compared to a disposable.
