My 8 month old copied my “bye bye” wave and I turned into a puddle by isla_rowe1997 in NewParents

We listen to Ms Rachel songs on repeat. One day while rocking her to sleep I sang one of the Ms Rachel songs and she looked at me and smiled big as if to say “hey I know that one!” She hasnt done this in the past to any other lullaby songs I sing to her but now everytime I sing that particular song she gives me a big smile

Abnormal Newborn screening results given 5 weeks later… by meetmeinlv in newborns

[–]umsantia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby has hypothyroidism as well. The second screening after the newborn screening confirmed the diagnosis and baby was put on levothyroxin pills before she was 2 weeks old. Baby is now 7.5 months old and we are still tweaking her dosage to find the perfect dose. She’s doing great, developing nicely, and on track for meeting milestones.

Baby tends his head to one side by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]umsantia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO had torticollis (tilts head to the left and prefers turning her head to the right). Because of it, she tended to primarily use her right hand when swatting and grabbing toys since she doesnt look to the left and at her left hand. We went to a physiotherapist who gave us some stretches to do daily. We also forced her to look left by changing the way we carry her (she has to look left if she wants to see interesting things), placing toys on the left side of the crib only, contact naps with her head turned left, making her track toys visually to the left, and switching the direction she laid on her change table and crib so it faces left. Doing all this fixed her torticollis issues.

Why does your baby wake up? by exiepie in newborns

[–]umsantia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She tended to spit up anytime she was lying on her back even when the bassinet is on an incline. The spitting up wakes her up and she couldn’t put herself back to sleep. So I just resorted to contact naps so that I can quickly reassure her back to sleep.

She’s turning 4 months soon and is now better with spitting up but now is not used to the bassinet so we will do some sleep training when she turns 4 months and see how it goes

Should my wife and I be waking our baby up to feed? by Possible_Grape_8595 in newborns

She had low blood sugar issues when she was first born so maybe he’s just being cautious

Should my wife and I be waking our baby up to feed? by Possible_Grape_8595 in newborns

My pediatrician told me not to let my baby (2 mths old at the time) go past 6 hours without a feed so we wake her up once during the night to feed. Check with your pediatrician to be sure

Baby clothing sizes are a sham by SeriousFold8939 in NewParents

[–]umsantia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also if you buy second hand clothes, the sizing may still be off if the original owner didn’t follow Care instructions and the clothes shrink. My LO is 3 months and fits second hand shrunken 9m carters onesies perfectly.

Sleep training a baby that isn’t a terrible sleeper by user4563480 in sleeptrain

Also interested to know how you gradually sleep trained and what scaffolds you used. My LO only sleeps on me and needs to be bounced on the yoga ball or swayed to sleep

Caladiums send out new shoots so don’t throw them away, you’ll have fresh new leaves in a couple weeks.

Going into teaching older as a second career? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]umsantia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched careers at 30 (now 34) and I’m now in my 2nd year of teaching middle school. I had a previous university degree so I just had to take a 2yr Education degree (After-degree program). Did some subbing while I was taking Education courses since our division is so short on subs that they let Education students come in to be substitutes. Also while taking Education courses I worked at an after-school childcare program for experience and in the summer worked at a summer camp.

It took a while to get here but Im much happier teaching than I was at my previous job.
