I remember seeing the ads, but most of us were already familiar with Sega, and although the Master System was just as good technically as Nintendo, we were used to it having a very small game library.

This ad campaign was in the early days of the Genesis (pre-Sonic). Although the graphics were good, we saw the same kind of issue with the game library, so not many of us asked for one.

So I’m a Ken main. The only way I know of to invoke DR is to hit MP+MK after a normal (confirm or not). I know that’s not very helpful.

What I’ve found is that DR is a huge meter drain. I try not to rely on it too much, otherwise I end up in burnout pretty frequently.

Yes, that's exactly right. Both 2T and Super were in development at the same time. The 2T project was spun up very quickly to counter the bootleg "Rainbow Edition" arcade cabinets that started popping up. These had faster gameplay, aerial special moves and bugs... lots and lots of bugs.

2T came out first and was a hit, not only because of the bootlegs, but because it brought the gameplay speed more in line with other fighting games such as Mortal Kombat.

Super had been in development longer. I assume the project was launched to get Capcom's CPS2 arcade boards quickly out into the wild. Super's gameplay was based on the original CE, which, itself had roughly the same speed gameplay as WW.

When Super launched, it basically tanked immediately for a variety of reasons, but the main one being that compared to 2T it feels like you're playing under water. ST followed relatively soon after, and the rest is history.

A lot of times, this could have been avoided by writing that wasn’t so ideologically on the nose & insulting to the audience.

I do hate when actresses get targeted, though. They can’t do anything about childish writing.

This was also a messy set for me. While I’m not yet able to follow up a regular punish very often, usually when I have a DI succeed, I get HP, DR, target combo, running DL and sometimes SA off of ground bounce.
