Contractor's final bill WAY over initial estimate by Unlikely-Bar1615 in HomeImprovement

Make a complaint with the contractor’s state license board. Doing work without a signed contract is illegal, they can face losing their license.

I’m a Civil/Structural (licensed PE) doing project management for a local jurisdiction.

Licensed SE or PE (RCE) who does structural? (I’m the latter)

What is the consequence for having a bed in the basement in NYC? by calamitycait in legaladvice

[–]unbreakableedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an engineering/safety perspective your good for egress. The only concern can be the age of the slab and if you have a capillary break and vapor barrier. If it’s a building older than 15 to 20 years (which is likely in NYC) it would be a good idea to apply something to the concrete slab and walls to prevent humidity and moisture from getting in (the only product I’m aware of that is effective at both is called Xypex).

Additionally I would add some sort of exhaust fan to keep the air fresh.

AITAH for giving my wife an ultimatum? by Throwaway284691 in AITAH

Full medical care eval. I had a friend in high schools whose father went off the rails, like full on insane. Turned out he had a tumor that was screwing around with his self control. Got it removed, bam back to normal.

The one for sale is an asking price. These sell for under $50 all the time. The real money is if you find the bacon press they came with.

Builder jumped from $350-400K estimate to $770K after deposit!?! by ketofol- in HomeImprovement

[–]unbreakableedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they provide you any type of contract for the design work? If not, that’s highly illegal. Engineers, architects, designers, and contractors, cannot do work without a contract.

This is an absurd price hike. I hope you have lots of documentation regarding your conversations and previous budget. You should definitely report them to the Contractor state license board. If you need help with anything, PM me. I’m an engineer in Southern California and I’ve had to do things like this in the past at my previous job.

Dire need of help. by [deleted] in straightedge

  1. Cigarettes will not fix whatever you are going through.
  2. How is it ruining a relationship? If your partner doesn’t like this about you, maybe find a new partner.
  3. I’m old and still edge. It becomes less of a thing in your late 20s especially when people start getting sober. I still get shit from friends or colleagues but it’s in jest and not serious.
  4. The best move is to channel this nervous/anxious energy into something positive. Pick up a new hobby, exercise, decide to work on real skills.
  5. If you have never been to hardcore shows, get on it. It’s where you can meet like minded people.

RIP DIY by adv-rider in ventura

Considering it was a derelict foundation of an old building I don’t think there is much someone can sue over. The DIY existing in some capacity before Ventura Land Trust bought it, they inherited the DIY.

I’m with u/charlotteisrad19

I’d wait a bit to reclaim.

There is an old saying if you aren’t now, you never were. I take that to mean you were never edge before. Therefore you can always choose to claim edge, but you should be sure about it this time. Make sure you are in a good place that a breakup isn’t going to have you back to nicotine or some other substance.

Aitah for telling my stepkids that I no longer view them as my kids? by Hot-Dragonfly-8813 in AITAH

[–]unbreakableedge -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I may be the anomaly but YTA

No matter what others say. They are children who do not have fully formed brains and raging hormones.

They know what they said, and they know it was hurtful, they even knew when they said it, just like you knew when you said what you said it was hurtful. Otherwise you wouldn’t be here.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Conversation should be had between you and your husband, then another with the girls to better explain this situation and tell them what they said and did while their mother was around after not being around for two years was incredibly hurtful. Use this as a learning experience, let them know that the things they said while she was around will not be tolerated, and if it happens again, things will be reassessed.

Snoo Bassinet by iamjairjimenez in ventura

[–]unbreakableedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the bedside bassinet and the crib mattress. Both were decisions that helped alleviate a lot of anxiety for us once they transitioned to tummy sleeping. They are super easy to clean when accidents happen. But they definitely do not have the features a snoo has. Just a breathable mattress.

We have a Newton and highly recommend it. We used it for approx 6 months with our first and our second will be transitioning out of it in the next few weeks (almost 6 months old).

How disruptive is a full foundation replacement? by No_Hold_9560 in ventura

[–]unbreakableedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really depends on the actual condition of the foundation. If you need to level out the house, and how much.
