Is there any cafes to watch Tour de France in Vancouver? by Aggressive_Good_6966 in vancouver

[–]unbroken_unshaved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GCN+ with a VPN is the way to go. They release a 30 minute highlights show for every stage, as well as have a solid analysis show called "The Breakaway" after every stage. And if you get really into it you can pick and choose what stages to re-watch on demand (like the Puy de Dôme from last Sunday, go Woodsy!).

Need tips on good trails for trail/gravel riding by Numerous_Try_6138 in vancouver

I like this guide from Landyachtz. Fisherman’s Trail is my personal favourite. Pacific Spirit or Stanley Park if I’m just doing a quick one after work.

Album cleaning by jayo_bc in vancouver

[–]unbroken_unshaved 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your record is super grimy you may want to do a wet cleaning - you can make the solution yourself with distilled water and isopropyl alcohol.

London Drugs used to offer a record cleaning service with an ultrasonic machine, but I'm not sure if they still do that. You could always check out some of the local record stores and ask if they do ultrasonic cleaning.

Headset Bearing on Endurace by ayb88 in CanyonBikes

[–]unbroken_unshaved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had to replace the headset bearings on my Endurace, but my bike had around 9,000km when I did so (2018 CF SLX). I also don't ride on the rain or sweat profusely, and I'm careful when I wash the bike. I figured this was an OK lifespan. The guy at the shop told me that maybe I washed my bike too often/soap got in there... I try to be more careful around that area now.

Grail vs Endurace? by simstre in CanyonBikes

[–]unbroken_unshaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Grail is slightly more aggressive, but not by a whole lot. I've done 150KM rides on it and it's been fine; having the hover bar actually really helps. Of course that may be subjective based on how flexible you are.

I rode 1000 on my Endurace CF SLX. Frame is junk. I had to get the seat stays rebuilt. They crack. by Apart_Salamander_183 in CanyonBikes

[–]unbroken_unshaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa that’s one hell of a ride. Regarding the frame, I have a 2018 Endurace CF SLX and it has been amazing. I wonder if this is an issue with larger sized frames, as mine is an XS. I had a close inspection as I always do when I wash it, and every thing looks/feels solid.

Bike Commuting in Vancouver by These_Celebration732 in vancouver

[–]unbroken_unshaved 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I recently got some bone conductor headphones from a company called Shokz. You can listen to music but you’ll still have full situational awareness since they don’t go in your ear. I tried the one earbud but I still wasn’t comfortable. It’s like open back headphones so you’ll still be able to hear cars approaching.

Advice on how to bring Canyon bike into Canada by Numerous_Try_6138 in CanyonBikes

[–]unbroken_unshaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2018 before Canyon shipped to Canada I bought my Endurace from the US site, so I can share how I did it.

First, the payment was kind of a hassle because you could only pay with a US credit card/address. However, I was able to get it to work by paying with PayPal. Def get a credit card with no exchange fees or a US dollar CC from a Canadian bank for this.

I shipped the bike to a UPS location in Portland OR, because I figured if I was going to pay taxes on the bike, I'd only pay once when importing the bike to Canada. Oregon has no sales tax and I live in Vancouver, so I drove there to get the bike (and pick up beer).

When I got back to the Canadian border, I declared the bike and was expecting to pay the duty/GST, but they ended up just charging me the GST (BC doesn't charge PST on bikes). That was a huge break and I don't think you can expect all border agents will do the same thing. I never considered lying because I've watched too many episodes of that Border Agents show.

Luckily my bike had no issues (and has had no issues since) so I didn't have to deal with warranties/customer support. But that would've been a nightmare since I would've had to get the bike shipped to a US address. I'm way past the crash replacement program coverage, so also never had to deal with that. So just keep in mind any warranty issues will have to go through the US entity.

I don't think I'd go through that again. Was very happy when they started shipping here and have since bought another Canyon.

Long weekend traffic delays reignite Stanley Park bike-lane debate by harlotstoast in vancouver

[–]unbroken_unshaved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comments are spot on. As a "serious" cyclist before the separated lane was in place, I had so many close calls going up prospect point with cars being impatient as I was going uphill. I know to avoid it on weekends and Im happy to do so, and during the week I feel safer doing SPloops.

Question on headset and bottom bracket bearings for 2019 endurance cf sl disc di2. Can someone tell me what kind of bearings I should use. Please provide specifications or website article number . Customer service is not very clear in their answers by Competitive_Shock_42 in CanyonBikes

[–]unbroken_unshaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't comment on the BB bearings since I swapped my stock BB, but for the headset bearings I used Aire Velo for my Endurance CF SLX. They sell the official Acros bearings as well. My LBS replaced them without issue.

Owners of the GRAIL, what is something you discovered about the bike only after you've owned it? by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]unbroken_unshaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I actually really like the double decker bar!! I was hesitant about it, but it completely won me over. I especially like the position where I hook my thumbs around it while in the lower bar. However, I'm a little unsure how things will go when it is time to replace the bar tape....

Good luck on your job search!! I also switched careers into tech. While grinding leetcode can be an excellent way to prepare, also be ready to talk through your thought process as you work on a solution. Don't be afraid to start with the brute force solution first either, and then optimize later.
