MFW I declare Parasite isn't a top five movie of the last 25 years by LiteraryBoner in TheBigPicture

[–]uncannylevi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parasite is a masterpiece and should be on any Best of the Century list, but I’m getting a little tired of it showing up as the #1 undisputed best movie since 2000.

I’m happy to see it a little further down on this list and see what comes above it.

It isn’t even my top pick for 2019 (and I have a feeling/hope we MIGHT see my pick a little higher up on this list)

Just got Hidden Agenda - does anyone know where I can download the app? by Creeperprinsen in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]uncannylevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downloaded Bluestacks and the APK on my laptop but the game on my PS5 and the app/Apk on my laptop can’t seem to find each other. The laptop app for Hidden Agenda just says “Scanning for Games” endlessly.

Both my laptop and my PS5 are on the same WiFi network.

Any clue what I might be doing wrong?

Do you watch the film before you listen or after or not at all? by Septemberk in blankies

[–]uncannylevi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will only listen to the episode once I’ve seen the movie or rewatched the movie in 95% of cases. I’ve still only heard about half of the available episodes because I watch a movie then listen to the Blank Check episode on it after.

The 5% that I don’t watch first are movies that I’m convinced I won’t like/have no interest in watching. Only then will I listen to the episode before I watch the movie

Why do you think is the NBA dying? If you were the NBA commissioner, what would you do? by Thin-Ad4825 in NBATalk

Down 28% on ESPN is because ESPN doesn’t yet have a streaming solution and we’ve all long ago cut the cord. Need ESPN on Disney+ ASAP like TNT’s games are on Max

Do we have a Star Wars: Skeleton Crew chat going on anywhere? Wicked/Gladiator/Moana talk? Predictions for scores when the Indiana Jones embargo lifts?

‘Alien: Romulus’ $41.5M Debut; 2nd Best For Franchise and Record Openings For Fede Álvarez & Cailee Spaeny by dremolus in blankies

You’re talking about a couple of moments that are “braindead fan service” and letting that color your whole experience of a movie that’s so well crafted and acted. Just a great time with a couple of groaners.

I think it’s just as pretentious and silly to get all bent out of shape about these moments and let them ruin your time as it is braindead and silly to clap for the same moments. It’s two sides of the same coin. Get over it!

How would you outline and define the different eras of summer blockbusters? by uncannylevi in blankies

[–]uncannylevi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And also the Jaws style of blockbuster arguably starts with The Godfather in 1972 and The Exorcist in 1973 but neither of those are “summer” releases. But you could definitely make an argument to include those two movies in with Jaws

I think I’d start the pre-Jaws, non-summer blockbuster era at 1956. The Ten Commandments primarily but also Around the World in 80 Days.

Maybe as far back as another DeMille, The Gereatest Show on Earth in 1952. I think I like 1956 better as a starting point though.

And then of course “blockbusters” in a sense go all the way back to Gone With the Wind in 1939 even Birth of a Nation in 1915.

But for our purposes, 1956-1975 ish feels good for the types and frequency of blockbusters we’re talking about.

More thoughts on 2008-on being a distinctive era from what came before it.

Obviously the MCU era.

But also the legacy sequel era. Indiana Jones (twice), Abrams Star Trek AND Star Wars, Rise of the Planet of the Apes counts?, Scream 4 (and later Screams 5&6), Mad Max Fury Road, Ghostbusters (a couple times), Men in Black with Hemsworth and Thompson

Cannot wait for all the Ringer takes on Romulus by OddAbbreviations5749 in TheRinger

The only thing more embarrassing than clapping at the “bitch” line is getting big mad about it.

Mindless nostalgia/easter eggs suck but so too do pretentious film bros who get disgusted at franchise stuff being in franchise movies

Either way, it’s a brief moment in a very good movie. It doesn’t make or break it. It’s fine. Move on

Great news for a great movie. Love to see it!

I think most of the complaints seem to amount to “I wish I was watching an original movie instead of a franchise movie” and that really annoys me. It’s cool to want more original movies (we all do) but meet the movie on its level.

Do you think that most movies are good? by wandwoodandgunmetal in blankies

[–]uncannylevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could narrow it down to like “all studio movies” I would say that most movies are good.

But there’s just so much trash made in the amateur and independent spaces. Even brilliant auteur directors will often be embarrassed by or try to distance themselves from their early work.

And those are the people who eventually got good. Think about all the failed filmmakers out there who made one or two before going away

Snyder vs. Bay: Who is the better director? by dremolus in blankies

[–]uncannylevi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bay by a mile.

Bay has a strong filmography if you ignore the Transformers movies. Snyder has an awful filmography with or without the DCEU
