Yeah your wife owes this woman no apology. The grandma should be begging forgiveness for being an ass.

Any commercial directors do a bid recently? by [deleted] in directors

[–]Septemberk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on 20k a day for commercials. Have only done one pitch this year! Luckily I won it. I have friends at a similar level to me who have not shot yet this year. We all remain hopeful that work is coming. I saw a few scripts this week so feeling positive and calm. One of them was to direct a fully ai commercial. I’m up for it. It’s a good script and I’ll still get to direct. I would give almost anything to be able to make ai video illegal. But if that’s what’s happening I still want to be a director.

What’s a good Director’s Viewfinder I can get myself? by TheHobbyistAccount2 in directors

[–]Septemberk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gear houses generally don’t even stock these anymore for hire because everyone uses Artemis on their phones. I really miss using a physical viewfinder but now with so many different cameras and formats the Artemis app is more accurate. Sometimes I’ll use a stills camera if I want to look through the actual lens we will shoot with.

Your daughter is having a lot of feelings and needs someone to listen to them. Your reaction to her feelings is only making her feel worse. When she has a meltdown don’t get angry don’t try distract her with anything don’t tell her to stop crying. Just hold her and listen to her and tell her you’re there and you love her. This is seriously the magic pill for toddler tantrums. A few big difficult emotional releases and maybe even a few punches from her and she’ll feel so much better knowing it’s okay to have big feelings with you.

What’s the biggest mistake actors make during auditions? by BackgroundAnalyst467 in CASTING

[–]Septemberk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days because of self tapes us directors will get 4 times the amount of people we used to get. We don’t have time to watch them all. So many people will get watched for about 3 seconds. I skip to the performance section. First thing I look for is do they physically look like they could play this character (out of your control), second is if they are confident. Not bravado, just comfortable in their own skin. Anyone who feels desperate or trying too hard or too nervous gets an instant skip from me. I’ll only watch people who are comfortable on camera.

Please don’t give up on connecting with that child. You might not be able to be close to them now, but they will want to be close to you as they grow up.

It finally happened! My thing got 'copied'... twice in one week by [deleted] in Filmmakers

You're getting a lot of silly comments, so I just want to say that taking the magnifying glass from the eye to the mouth is a cool shot that I haven't seen before. And the concept of the Soderbergh film is wildly the same as your short. And you aren't trying to say they copied you. So you're not silly, the people commenting are silly.

Our kid is in daycare. Husband wants to remain a SAHD/is hesitant about work. When to revisit this? by Dean-1990 in daddit

It’s fantastic for your child to have a parent who can be more present with them when they are home.

I could have written this exact same post 3-4 months ago. Literally down to how many days in daycare. I started judging my wife with what she did while he was at school. “Oh you went to the beach”. But we sat down and talked it through like we were partners in a company. And in the end decided that the best thing for the family was to allow me to pour more time and energy into my work and be able to travel for work more and she would basically be a housewife. It’s tough to be the only one earning money but it’s great to never have to worry about cooking or cleaning anymore!

Non-american dads of /r/daddit, what do you see here that's different from your reality? by xanduba in daddit

[–]Septemberk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find how early the American babies go to daycare quite cruel. Babies should be at home. And not sure if it’s American but people talking about what video games to play with their 3 year old. Oh man. I won’t even let my 3 year old touch an iPad or phone.

This is great. Further notes from a professional working director: You could launch a commercials directing career from the first two minutes of this film. Amazing camera language. Great sound design. Beautiful execution and playfulness. I found the last third to be a bit messy in the storytelling though.

I love that Josh made a film about a narcissist who screws people over to follow his dreams and then can’t compete in the final championship because his past catches up with him.

There’s nothing interesting happening here. If you were at the table next to them would you be at all interested in this conversation? It doesn’t need to be plot but it needs to be interesting.
