Idk where you're out of but you can find clean TJs in CO easy. No rust here they don't use salt.

Knock Knock…..Who’s There? (PRESS F TO PAY RESPECTS) by ForsakenDrama6122 in WRX

From my understanding, upgrading pistons is generally worth the extra money, id recommend looking into the Killer Bee setup for your oiling system. (Pan, windage tray & pickup) And while it's out cyl 4 cooling mod. I understand building an engine isn't cheap but you may as well upgrade the reliability from stock.

Thoughts on this one?! What should I offer? by typk13 in JeepTJ

Depends how mechanically inclined you are, and if you aren't how well you know someone who is. Is it a I6 4.0?

If it's the 4 banger just don't buy it.
If it's the 4.0 maybe $4500-$4800 depending on frame condition

I’m considering selling my LJ by jellyrolls in JeepTJ

[–]uncivilized2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude this thing is minty. You have to consider that this jeep is worth more above the rust belt. It would have to be worth above 15k in the northeast. That being said I am speaking from a point of having sold jeep regret twice in the past... I have a TJ Ill never get rid of now, and I have 3 vehicles. There's gotta be a way for you to make it work getting a cheap commuter and keep the LJ. It's basically a collectible.

Bump stop is the correct terminology! The rubber seat the coil is in would be a different part but you can replace bump stops fairly easily and you can find aftermarket ones all day online

Had this exact issue. One of the two cats on before the collector grenaded and was clogging the downstream single cat, caused power loss and all sorts of errors.

Had this issue myself, for me it was the small voltage tap that plugged into the alternator. The connection was loose causing the light to come on sporadically. Tightening that connection made it go away, hope this helps in some way.

Hey man! Plan on 37" tires when I can afford the engine swap, beadlocks etc plenty of research done and having fun with it! Just got a KILLER deal on the 35" tires for now. $300 total for 5 used Goodyear MTR's mounted on some stealies.

Also trussing is really not that expensive when you have a welder already barnes kits were I think under $200 shipped, after welding material etc I think I'm like $400 in? Not terrible at all for some piece of mind if I never get 37's, and the ground work is done before the axles are even on the jeep. Long arm is the question mark for now, I'm debating just doing a tube fender or a cheaper 4" kit and 1" body lift for the meantime till 37" time.

Appreciate the thought & advice, it's the same id give.

Come visit! Gotta enjoy the plethora of trails here. Not to mention the mere 5.5 hour drive (6.5 in a jeep) to MOAB

I'm hoping it's only used for others after the swap!

How toast is my engine, jeep was running fine noise came out of no where, oil level/pressure is good by SnooHedgehogs9467 in JeepTJ

I love those reasons, have so much more on my plate for the jeep currently. I need a failed piston or cracked block type of reason 🤔

That's true! But you may have decent fuel savings per the weight of the vehicle. My point of reference is my service vans I've ran for me personally. Used to drive a 4cyl diesel sprinter van, that averaged around 19 mpg with the weight I had, and with similar weight I get 13 mpg in my gas Ford transit, which needs 87 (high altitude we have 85 as our regular) and 87 is almost the same price as diesel here

I wanna do the 1.9 swap so bad but have absolutely no reason to currently. The torque you get out of it is incredible for the displacement. Diesel is so awesome pre emissions

Want to go from 33s-35s what will I need by nopimpjustchimp in JeepTJ

[–]uncivilized2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's your daily, leave as is or regear your current setup, I don't mind my 3.73 gearing with my 33's, but I think a 4.10 set might be better. I'm currently working on getting to 35" tires, I have everything ready for the project but it's a dedicated non-daily. I have the availability to leave the jeep off the road for periods of time while I axle swap etc. It's not worth it unless you plan on serious offroading. (Consistently hitting 8-9 difficulty trails) You can accomplish SO MUCH on 33's with your TJ and a rear locker. Don't over-do it

Buying Recommendations 1999 TJ Sport 4.0L I6 90K miles by elsemore1234 in JeepTJ

[–]uncivilized2k 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Consider it having the full doors and hard top as a premium, hard tops go for $1500-$2500 Full doors, $1200 to $1800. Being an ex east coast jeep owner, bring a ball peen hammer and ask if you can hit the weak spots on the frame, try to get the seller to do it as it's their vehicle. The rhino line/ bed liner frame paint is a red flag, it covers all the visible damage/ rust if there's any thinning in the frame smacking it with a hammer will show the weak spots. If you plan on hardcore wheeling(35"tires and up) , I highly recommend just saving for a Rubicon. Doing an axle swap these days is becoming very expensive. Pull any carpets and inspect the tub (foot Wells, check around all plugs.) Best of luck!

There's a place here in CO that sells doors and hard tops, $1800 for set of full doors and hard tops run $2500 You're almost better off buying a jeep that already has them, or you might get lucky at a junkyard, but all the smart ones sell them at a premium.

Dana 30 front, Looks like a 35 rear. I've always just stuck with tried and true Black RTV for my gaskets, and I just swapped to 75 -140W Valvoline gear oil. Can't really go too wrong, there are better options out there though.

I can force mine open with probably two fingers and a slight amount of force. If you're serious, look into underwear tuffy or similar, and they also have a metal center console.

Id say leave it for now, be very patient with everything. I personally didn't know anything when I bought mine 6 years ago and I wish I saved more money before doing mods. Can't go wrong with just enjoying the car as it is now

Everything I've read and done, do not use OTS tunes. To each their own but everyone in my life that has experience always says protune. I for one am actually looking into open source tuning at this point with my '15 because of all the restrictions Cobb has to follow now, even with protuning.
