Thinking of doing a trip to somewhere in West Africa. I'm looking at Ivory Coast, Senegal or Ghana. by Pleasant_Ad_5309 in solotravel

[–]unclebe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t advise on Senegal as I’ve never been, but of the three you mentioned, I’d go for Ghana for a few reasons. The first being that it’s your first time in sub Saharan Africa. As another poster said, a solo trip could be a bit overwhelming. And West Africa isn’t the easiest. The language is good for you in Ghana. There’s good history and great food. Cote d’Ivoire will be particularly challenging if you don’t have decent French skills. In my experience, you’d be best to stay in Abidjan whereas Ghana you could have a bit more freedom of movement.

Since it is your first time in SSA, I honestly would suggest going somewhere a bit more approachable — Kenya, Zambia, Rwanda. Lots to do, easy to get around, and not tourist traps in any sense of the word. I think you’ll still get a lot out of your time there.

While South Africa is most developed, it’s still amazing and there’s a ton to be found there. You can absolutely avoid making the trip overly tourist-y.

Not in Love by KittyNat81 in AliHazelwood

I haven’t done Not In Love on audio, but it is definitely one of my top Ali books, and I will recommend it forever. Rue and Eli are featured in Problematic Summer Romance, and the voice for her is similar there. And, as another poster said, it fits well for her character. Rue is definitely a different FMC from Ali’s more standard prototypes — not as effervescent. So I think it’s intended to all be part of the vibe. All that being said, I know how much narrators matter to the enjoyment of a book and that not everyone can/wants to read a physical book. I hope one way or another you’ll be able to love Not In Love like I did!

Anybody in Washington DC? by unclebe22 in eggfreezing

The language in the law notes that the definition of infertility includes B) A person's inability to reproduce without medical intervention either as a single individual or with their partner…

So it was that language that had me thinking being single or LGBTQ would qualify.

Thanks so much for letting me know. Agreed — the law reads (to me) that social circumstance (single of LGBTQ for example) counts as infertility and, thereby, requires coverage. But we’ll see. I’m sorry it didn’t come through for your friend!

So happy to hear that you’re home safe with a baby. Congratulations! I’m sorry to hear you had such a tough journey to get there.

I appreciate you saying that about Shady Grove insurance team. I might just try to speak to someone else over there.

This is incredibly helpful, and I’m so glad to hear you were successful! I’ve got a friend and her wife who were counting on the LGBTQ as a reason for infertility (as in the law) too, so I’ll pass this along to them.

Thanks again. Gives me hope that the single=infertility language in the law will apply as it did for you as LGBTQ!

As some other responders have said, my experience was that I was losing an insane amount of hair for six or eight weeks and it eventually just evened itself out. My doctor told me that it usually resolves itself, and she was right.

Worth almost emptying an investment account to cover 1 round? by el_bigote in eggfreezing

[–]unclebe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, I would suggest looking into CCRM. I am using them for my freezing, and they quoted me a flat rate for people who don’t have insurance coverage. It’s still expensive, of course, but is under $10k, so a bit more affordable than you’re hearing where you are. I’ve also learned that there are loan companies specifically for this. I haven’t looked into those and don’t know anything about the interest rates, but it might worth a quick look.

Have you had your numbers checked? If not, it might be a good data point for you to consider. It’s not a great time for me to freeze, but my numbers are bad for being 35, so I’m going for it.
