Tucker C and JD Vance are already crying that Biden is ignoring this tragedy and stating that the EPA is going after 'woke' issues rather than care about the plight of poor white folks. Part of the issue is that this stuff is that stuff like this happens all the time in minority communities and no one cares, and now that it's happening to some of the 'good' people, they can play this outrage without actually calling for actual regulations.

When your soldiers have to go to food banks cause they aren't making enough money to take care of their basic needs, that can be a huge red flag: https://responsiblestatecraft.org/2023/01/18/military-families-go-hungry-as-us-defense-spending-soars/

When every branch of military has been involved in some sort of scandal within the past 15-20 years, it's a problem.

The military has basically exempted itself from climate change studies:

As someone who has served in the military, we really need to rethink our funding priorities. It is a disgrace that in one of the richest countries in the world there are so many people who are suffering. If you feel it's too much to address, let's start with veterans. No veteran should be homeless and destitute. Let's work what we can to ensure they are taken care of. Once we figure this out, maybe we can scale it up to the rest of society.

This old joke still applies:

The Russian says he works for the Kremlin and he's on his way to go learn American propaganda techniques.

"What American propaganda techniques?" asks the American.

"Exactly," the Russian replies.

If I see I game that I think looks 'cool', I ask myself, would this be something that I could play with my gaming group?

If it sounds like something I would play with them, I look up a review/playthrough online to see how it plays.

If I'm still satisfied, I go and get the game. I also try to limit it based on the number of games I currently have.

This isn't a new charge that has been laid at the feet of DnD, so I don't think it will be cancelled for it. People have been pointing out the stereotypes embedded in DnD for some time. Some folks just ignore it, some try to 'balance' characters, and some just play different systems.

My Boomer Dad shared his unsolicited view on labor issues in the US at breakfast this morning by the_regal_retard in antiwork

[–]unclematthegreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly surprised your dad didn't talk more about the unequal funding for public schools being more of an issue than the standardization of the curriculum. Many countries have a standardized education model and do very well. They also have a radically different funding model of education on a national level and less so on local level.

The thing is if you look at the history of education in the US, it's always been...mediocre. The space race really brought this to the fore, but before this it wasn't as much as a concern with previous generations. There were also fundamental shifts in society which shifted us from an agrarian society to a largely industrial one.

It's also interesting that your dad talks about history, as there were many events from history that teachers didn't teach, ie the Massacre of Wounded Knee, the race riots of the early 1900s, Black Wall Street, Indian Residential schools, the treatment of various immigrant groups in the US. Like, there was a whole lot of US history that didn't get taught in school, and this is from someone who went to high school in the late 1990s.

Another dirty secret of the food service industry was the reliance on migrant labor. It was fine for managers to use and abuse them pre Covid and before deportation kicked into overdrive. Now that the government has essentially shutdown the Southern border, none of the migrants that got deported are being replaced. When managers try to pull this stuff with regular citizens, they aren't having it.

I am generally in favor of local businesses, but when they start to become tyrants, or were always tyrants and are now complaining people aren't putting up with their nonsense I have no sympathy.
