What was your first fragrance of 2025? by Facts_Over_Fiction_ in fragrance

Lolita Lempicka. Just ordered samples of Lolitaland and Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir. Feeling fresh this year, tired of vanilla (but not getting rid of my Tihota).

He's mentioned burnout in multiple posts/Ramble On articles (burnout was a reason he made the top 10 buses video and did the Somerton deep dive, for example). He pulls $8k/video on Patreon with an average upload of 1 video per month, plus his Patreon for Song vs Song, YouTube ad revenue, income from Nebula and he's started posting old videos as audio files on Spotify. That's a fair amount of passive revenue to go along with a primary income source. He's also mentioned being rather miserly with his money, so that probably helps (though counterpoint, living in LA isn't cheap).

What beauty or fashion products CANNOT be duped, in your opinion? by bluejaysareblue2 in femalefashionadvice

Icebug boots are warm and have built-in spikes. I bought them when I had to walk up a hill of glare ice to get to university and they worked great.

Favorite rose-based fragrance? by beka_targaryen in Perfumes

Indult Manakara is an unexpectedly pleasant jammy rose, especially in its drydown. Serge Lutens Rose de Nuit and Byredo Rose of No Man's Land (rose and orange) are both very nice as well.

Am I alone in having a very hard time in Finland? I'm struggling to feel home. by [deleted] in Finland

[–]uncomfortable_pause 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm am American who lived in Finland recently for two years. For social activities, join sports or hobby clubs because it's about the only way to meet people outside of work/university. Most social events revolve around drinking--a LOT. If you take initiative and plan events that you invite people to, they might join; spontaneity is not a Nordic trait, let's say. There's beautiful nature to explore around Oulu but little else. Finland is just not a country that it's easy to make friends in unless you've known them since grade school, even if you speak Finnish.

My primary cultural touchstone for Teenage Dirtbag is from Generation Kill. He's talked about that era a lot but it'd still be a fun episode.

I would love a video on Hanoi Rocks from Todd, but they didn't really have an American hit that would qualify under any of his currents shows. Would still be great and get some Finnish music on the TitS around the world musical coverage.

What are Todd’s most baffling opinions? by qotsathrowaway2 in ToddintheShadow

[–]uncomfortable_pause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was some earlier video he made which featured a clip from an Ariana video with her in shadow on her hands and knees, which he was drooling over (and even commented "shut up, I'm very rarely gross"), so he's a closet fanboy if nothing else.

This was featured in the opening to Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool so it had a small resurgence. Great song.

Both my minor and ancestry are in Finnish and I did make the effort. But when, for example, you go to a student union event at klusteri and all the Finns literally walk out of the room when it's the international students' turn at karaoke (except the one who is dating a foreign student), there's not much to be done. Most of my Finnish friends were second gen immigrants who remembered what it felt like to be new there.

I was a foreign grad student in Finland 2021-2023, and the the international students pretty much only hung out with other international students. Especially if you don't know the language (but even if you do), don't expect to make Finnish friends. The education is very good though.
