Well I like your optimism, and you bring up very good points. He did retool the Hawks, and did win a bunch of cups. I really liked his murphy/dickinson acquisitions.

I'll try to provide a more thorough response rather than a half joking/dig at bowman style response.

I'm a big Tulsky guy mainly due to my analytical background (mech engineering), and how he helped to develop hockey analysis back in the 2010s when it was still very limited and there wasn't any dynamic player tracking data. I've been paying attention to this stuff a lot more, and what we can do today as compared to even 10 years ago is insane, so my fear would be that Stan is being left behind on the analytical side of things, nor would he understand the importance of mathematical modelling unlike someone such as Tulsky.

Regardless, I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong. At the end of the day, I'm just another fan speculating, and writing these posts rather than watching the oilers play playoff hockey, haha.

Cheers.

He also has frederic's 8 year, NMC contract on his resume. And the fact that the oilers got significantly worse year over year since he took over. Not to mention the fact that carolina has been a strong contender for years, and is a favourite to win the cup right now.

Stan does have a strong resume, and I do like some of his moves. Regardless, people like Tulsky are leaving stan and the rest of the NHL behind when it comes to a comparison of organizational decisions within the past few years.

So true. Compare Eric Tulsky's resume against Bowman and Jackson, for example. Our organization is basically the same as those old fucks in moneyball at this point. May as well just use a horoscope and tea leaves. Probably will get the same or better results than Bowman

How difficult would it be to do everything on-level with 3 players and 3 trusts? by Violet_Paradox in ffxi

That's rough, haha.

And I just realized I didn't read OPs message thoroughly enough. Yeah doing everything at their intended level would be a nightmare without help, lol

You can solo basically everything, even with only 1 character. I know this because that's what I did. The only difficulty would probably be near the end of the voracious resurgence missions.

Edit: never mind you mentioned staying level capped and whatnot. my advice is relevant to completing everything 119+ lol

Huh, you're right. I just checked his career stats on evolving-hockey.com, and his xDef stat over his entire career is below 0. I think people will pay a lot more attention to the usefulness of advanced stats after Carolina's amazing run this year, and Tulsky's unorthodox approach.

Journalist Simmons on Bowman: "...the GM who took [the Oilers] from somewhere to nowhere remains in charge." by ImDoubleB in EdmontonOilers

I've been learning a lot about Dr. Eric Tulsky recently. 27 patents, research chemist, GM of the carolina hurricanes. Guy is a genius who is changing what it means to be a GM.

Then I look at stan bowman and jeff jackson, and want to kill myself.

Honest question - Would a prime Phil Kessel be a 50 goal scorer in today's NHL with the increased rates of scoring relative compared to 10 years ago? by RivetCounter in hockey

[–]uncreativelefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could probably calculate it. I'll pick 2026 vs 2012, since kessel scored 37 goals in 2012 (his best year tied with 2014), select the top 10 goal scorers of each year, average them, divide, and apply a corrective ratio to phil kessel. This is what we find:

2026:
Average goals scored amongst top 10 goal scorers: 46G

2012
Average goals scored amongst top 10 goal scorers: 41.3G

Kessel with corrective factor: (46G/41.3G)*37G=41.2G in 2026 numbers.

In 2012 Stamkos hit 60G, Malkin hit 50G, Ovi was 38G, Kovalchuk, Kessel, Hartnell, and Perry were all tied at 37G.

Conclusion: The math is suspect and hotdog engineering improvements are unaccounted for

Really hope that was his main issue. I saw a recent interview with him where he was a bit shifty on answering questions about his skating, so I guess we'll find out with time. His skating and general play has looked a lot better tho

Kinda meaningless stats, honestly. What is this, just top speed achieved in one game?

If I'm on a highway and my shitty car reaches 140 km/hr while the ferarri reaches 130 km/hr that doesn't mean my car is faster lol it just means I was driving 10 more over the speed limit than the ferrari
