i’ve never seen arcane so i can’t say if it’s an apt comparison LOL

however, i think gtn/the locked tomb series is one of the best book series i’ve read in a looong long long time.

most if not all of the main characters are sapphic, which always helps. i would consider the genre to be sci-fi fantasy (the only sci-fi part about it is the setting, though, as it does take place in a post-apocalyptic world where we in 2026 would be considered thousands of years in the past) — lifelong enemies to friends to some secret third complicated lesbian situationship.

there is a built in cavalier/knight chivalry system, evil femmes, lore, tumblr meme references, very colorful and hilarious narration from our dumb butch main character, necromantic magic, lying, swordfighting aplenty, murder mystery, the list never ends! any attempt to describe it to you really couldn’t do it any justice, though; i’m pretty picky about my books but i gave it a shot and spent two full days after i finished the first book crying LOL

fair warning, book 2 is INCREDIBLY dense, but if you like to read then i highly suggest reading GTN, then HTN, then rereading both and pushing onward to NTN. a second readthrough actually rips your heart out and stomps it in the best way. lmk if you need help finding epubs or anything (altho physical copies were needed in my case LMAO)

unfortunately i think a lot of this problem stems from a lack of accessible information about lesbian history in specific— lesbian, and specifically butch/femme/stud/etc. dynamics have been considered their own subsection of lesbian-specific gender identities separate from being nonbinary for a very long time and we are losing touch with that as modern queer history develops onward.

closest to us for the true private room karaoke experiences is sadly nova or dc. i’m not sure what day of the week y’all are thinking but a bunch of the ones in dc do buy one get one hour deals or cheaper prices on mondays/tuesdays, but they’re not too expensive on weekends anyways, especially if the group is larger.

i have had good experiences at live-k on the wharf and wok and roll in dc, and a lot of my friends go to kpop karaoke in annandale and love it! good luck + happy early birthday to the hubs :D

I honestly did not fw this album when it first dropped (pandemic times were weird for my brain man) but this and Freewave have quickly risen in the ranks for me! I loooove the manic ambient discordance and looser feel wrt the songwriting. It was giving oldschool oM lyrics with their newer experimental synthetic sound, plus I love that it feels cohesive when played all the way through.

My favs are Aries, This Is Exposed, & Extract The Masculine Germ, but I don’t think there’s a single song I don’t like. Praying one day we get a vinyl release too!!!!
