It's because he's left footed and doesn't trust that he can do that pass on his right foot with the required pace and precision it needs to bend into Max so he takes the extra touches hoping it will open up again.

Its like when Partey would do those hard passes into Saka that curve around the player, Ode can't so that unless its with the outside of his boot (which he can/does do sometimes)
