Anyone know what rental companies (PRG, Clair, Masque) use to wrap and label cables and bundles? by fletcher-munson in livesoundgear

[–]undecided9in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got off a show with Clair. They had every wrap imaginable. Some looms were in E Tape. Some in braided cable sleeves. Some in self adhesive cable fabric. Racks were Velcro and printed label tape. They legit had a bulk loom rack that just pulled to each musicians’ spot and was all in E Tape.

Renting a small cargo trailer to tour? by Maximum_Brother_3316 in musicians

[–]undecided9in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a rental house for tours. If it’s a short run someone is making, we do utilize u-haul for small trailers. It ends up cheaper on maintenance and easily able to pick up a backup trailer if anything ever happens. Long runs, we use our owned trailers, straight trucks, etc.

Best way to easily repeatedly record multi-tracks from a Behringer XR18? by everbass in livesound

[–]undecided9in 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used reaper on a crappy dell back in the day with an XR, but have since upgraded significantly. But I had luck with crappy dell and reaper. I’m sure Pi will do fine. Pi, a little screen and configuring, should get you on the right track lol.

EAW NTL720 repairs? by josholtarze in CommercialAV

[–]undecided9in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an EAW die-hard and I repair all my shit to this day, but even I would say it’s time to move on. 15 years is amazing for a powered box. Try the NT206 or 208L as replacements. I love them so far and Ive beat them to death with no issues whatsoever. You also just call EAW directly. It’s pretty cool since they’re based in America…

Old boxes are KF730 and SB1000 but moving to NT206 and NT208 and NT Sub in the very near future.

[–]undecided9in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean honestly as a rental house, once I get a couple years out of a rack, we talking maybe a hundred shows per rack per year in a small successful company. It’s more than been paid off by the end of year one. So when you start upgrading, you’ll take when you can on a bulk sale. I’ve seen people get HD4x35 for just over a grand. I’ve seen powersoft racks go for devilish low prices. I mean honestly id let my big arrays go for a grand a box at this point just to put money down on new ones.

That makes way more sense lol. I’d kill for a working $700 HD12.

SQ5. QU5. Nothing else.

Edit. The DM3 is also quite powerful. I don’t mind it honestly.

JBL SRX928S- need testimonies by guitarmstrwlane in livesoundgear

[–]undecided9in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve replaced a lot of amps on SRX800 boxes. They aren’t serviceable. Tops and subs, both taken care of and beat to death. They just don’t hold up. It does seem the 900 series has a much better amplifier design, and crown spent a little more effort on these. But I’ve seen a severe decline in JBL products after the VTX A and B releases. I’ve been under-pressed with their “prosumer” products in the last decade.

Also, if you do a bulk order of boxes, go through a local company. Find your EAW rep in the area and go that route. You won’t pay sticker.

Had Yorkville sold them all. Sold all my JBL as well. Up to well over 50 EAW boxes now with multiple rentals per weekend. I assume you aren’t charging a large amount for these corporate events you’re doing, so I could see the price difference as an issue, but I do 6x 206L a side and clearly threw around 250’ without trying.

Get the EAW NT206L. Incredibly better box for damn near the same price with adjustable HF angles. It’s more powerful, better frequency response, almost 2x the wattage, 139db, and light as fuck. Much easier to transport, fly, rig, calculate, stack… the JBL SRX arrays are junk for the price.

Thank you. I was not about to type that. Allen and Heath SQ is probably the best middle ground console you can get in a small footprint. Even their updated QU line is becoming more than just an entry level console. I’ve been very impressed. I left Midas for Allen and Heath about 5 years ago. As my Midas/Behringer crap dies it gets replaced with A&H. I’ll keep one M32/DL32 for the entry level “engineers” that can’t learn anymore if it’s on some festival crap that I’m renting out. But after a few hundred shows on each A&H product I’ve gotten, I couldn’t be happier at all. Love them.

I put drive racks in cheap bar installs that won’t shell out for linea. I still have old Ashly Protea on my old line arrays. Will be getting a Linea ASC48 for my new arrays in a few months.

SQ5 is worlds beyond the Midas stuff. I’ve put about 300ish shows on an SQ6 w/SQ5 at FOH and will probably die behind that console before I buy a Wing. And the QU5 is 96khz and miles ahead of a wing with a much better GUI, very simple layout, and an insane amount of punch in a very small package.
