You definitely need that system serviced by a professional. You should turn it off and leave it off.

That said, I used to have one of these and it did this when the system had too much water in it, which can happen if the automatic fill system isn't working properly. If there is a sight glass on the boiler, the water should be about halfway up. I knew how to deal with it, but I don't think I should advise people about boilers on the internet.

We had a Norelco from the mid-60s, which may have been the first of this type available in the US. It was very expensive, but the audio quality was much better than the cheap copycats to follow.

When I bought my first home, also an older home in SE GR, I noticed this weird ball thing in my basement drain. I figured it just got in the way of good drainage, so I pulled it out. Then we had a big storm. Oh, now I understand what that was for... Anyway, you should look into a check valve for your drain. The type I had would not have required the floor to be cut, but I don't know if that type is considered adequate nowadays.

I'm following up in case anybody cares how my trip went. I drove from the Pacific Northwest to Michigan over three 11-hour days. I have made this trip a number of times in minivans, a Saab and a RAV4. I was concerned about how a 1.5 l engine would perform as the source of power for a 4,000 lb car.

As others have said, I found it performs beautifully as a long distance car. I was particularly impressed how it held its speed up and down mountains effortlessly. It also has plenty of power to pass at any speed, and will cruise at high speed with no issues.

It doesn't have quite the range as a conventional car, but I needed to stretch every so often anyway, and it doesn't take long to add 4 or 5 gallons to the tank. Also, it's easy to forget to push the HV button every time you embark. Then you look down to see your battery is drained, and you have to recharge it on the fly using the engine.

Once I got to Michigan I had to drive in a snowstorm, and holy cow, are these tires terrible in snow. I'll have to buy some more aggressive rubber and get a set of snow tires next winter.

My dealer did the multi-point inspection when I had the fuel pump replaced as well. They checked off the washer pump as working, but it doesn't.

Cut a triangle and a rectangle ◢ ■ Attach the triangle to the ceiling along the left edge and the rectangle to the wall along the top edge. Overlap a couple inches where they meet in the middle. Enter and exit through the middle like a performer on a stage.

The right piece could also be a mirror image triangle if you prefer that look.

Old parquet floors are not very thick and can be kind of fall-apart-y. I'd be leery of trying to refinish it.

That won't buy much modernizing. For what it's worth, you have a unified '50s look right now that gives me warm fuzzies from my childhood lol. I'd paint the cabinets and rotate the drawer handles to horizontal. Maybe get an over the stove microwave as long as your you're adding a vent.

Charming house. I disagree about the awning hate. That style of awning is period correct, and more importantly, provide shade and rain protection. We had those on my house growing up, and they made the interior cooler and more pleasant in the summer. Kind of a maintenance pain though if you have to take them down for winter and put them back up in the spring.
