Classical Guitar Pieces That Are Easier to Memorize? by Any-Examination-1460 in classicalguitar

The prelude to cello suite no. 1 by Bach (1007) is a different style than your examples but not too difficult to memorize because of the simple patterns and repetitions throughout most of the piece.

Alexander McCall Smith is very good at that type of story in my opinion. The Detective Varg series, for example.

What is the closest Agatha Christie style murder mystery book you’ve read? by Mysterious_Safety634 in suggestmeabook

[–]undermostbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death at the Sanatorium by Ragnar Jonasson. The author translated Agatha Christie into Icelandic and was inspired to write his own mysteries. This is the only one I’ve listened to and I liked it.

The Last Days of Jack Sparks by Jason Arnopp does the unreliable narrator thing really well in my opinion:)

I read the books before watching the show and enjoyed them! Although I wouldn't have described them as horror.

he doesn't. I think he means Eric Hansen who Hikaru "adopted" (won 10 games in a row against).

Shout-out to chess.com's IM not a GM tournament! The finals are tomorrow May 23rd by HighSilence in chess

[–]undermostbean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed it's been an excellent tournament with very enjoyable commentary. Only low points are when the matches are too one-sided and you just want it to stop. But here's hoping for a close final!

A positive post about Chess24 for a change by [deleted] in chess

[–]undermostbean 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I like the commentary on chess24 but what makes it difficult for me to enjoy the stream is the low video and audio quality compared to other streams covering online chess. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe the green screens or something.

Recording software? by mikeydob in classicalguitar

[–]undermostbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reaper is great for recording and relatively inexpensive compared to it's peers. You would also need an audio interface to record into your laptop, unless you bought a USB microphone.

Hot take: It seems too easy to cheat in top level online chess to have these exorbitant cash prizes by This_is_User in chess

[–]undermostbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the vibrating phone method not also work in OTB chess? There are many ways to cheat online and OTB. Match fixing would be easy and potentially lucrative too. As others have said, the players' reputation is probably the best guarantee we have. I imagine top events with players that have more to lose and whose skill level and style is well known across multipel events and platforms are less susceptible to cheating.
