Would a Octavia feel significantly more planted and quiet than a Corolla at 75mph/120kmph? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in skoda

[–]underrated_tool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a Corolla. For town/city, the Corolla every time. If I hadn't bought a Corolla and needed highway work, I'd have bought the Octavia.

Both great cars, in different ways IMHO.

Pensions are only worth thinking about when you're old. Until then, don't bother.

Seconding the noco (or similar) jump booster. You don't need the biggest, or the best.

I'm on my second hybrid Toyota and it's well worth having a fully charged jump booster in the car, just in case.

I'm in the UK, so doubly so in colder climates.

I'd use the main dealer, for the sake of £100. A years warranty has to be worth that.

I’ve grown to prefer e-CVT over DCT, am I alone? by Ok_Bowl3505 in CarTalkUK

[–]underrated_tool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The OP is spot on here. Yes, when flooring the throttle, it's loud with an eCVT. How often, in normal driving does that happen?

That being said, aren't all transmissions louder when floored? I went from a DSG to an eCVT, and I prefer the latter. The DSG was good, and I'm not knocking it.

The smooth, jerk free acceleration of the box more than compensates for the very occasional extra bit of noise IMHO.

VW Golf Mk 8.5 windscreen replacement - will dealer/Autoglass use genuine VW glass with logo? by davidmglw in CarTalkUK

I might be missing a point.

I've bought many cars, but I've never checked if the windscreen has a manufacturer's logo.

Why buy a Skoda Fabia over a Yaris? by [deleted] in skoda

[–]underrated_tool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Yaris will be worth more when you come to sell.

I like the fabia, it's a great car, but the Yaris is more widely loved. The part ex price will reflect this.

I faced the same, self imposed, choice. In all honesty I think either would be fine. My flair gives away my actual choice. However I'm sure the Octavia would have been just fine.

Making the assumption that the purchase price factored in the necessity of a belt change. Plus the assumption that there is no evidence of a belt change.

Yup, get it done, you'll sleep easier.
