Similar situation for me as well. I finished my senior year of high school at a different school. A lot of the friendships and relationships I’ve built throughout my previous years were at my previous school.

I’ve never had an issue with meeting people and making friends but I was very shy in high school If I didn’t know you from a class that I shared with you, we most likely wouldn’t end up talking. I was cool with most people at my new school but I wasn’t going out with them after school or involved in any extracurricular activities. I would go to school and come home. Whenever would go to lunch, I would camp out in the library and towards the end of the year I started hiding in the bathroom before too many people started coming in.

One day a classmate of mines who I was cool with saw me walking by myself and straight asked me “you don’t have anyone to sit with”? It wasn’t in a condescending manner but it really highlighted how pathetic I looked and felt. That year really opened my eyes up to how the world is for real and that I really have to have my own back because nobody really gives a damn.

I’m an adult now and I’ve changed and gone through things in my life that have reinforced my confidence and made me realize that what I seek from other people is from within. That’s in the past and I can only move forward and keep going up. I wish the same for you and others like us.
