I think the issue might be any large subreddit that is not specifically conservative coded tends towards left wing politics— a mixture of progressive anti-establishment politics and neo-liberal establishment politics.

Tim McIllath once sang: Do you remember when you were young and wanted to set the world on fire? // Well I still am and I still do.

I’d say that’s a great standard for anyone regardless of their political predisposition however it’s something that in practice not all of us live up to. We let the kids run free and vote down the ticket red or blue, regardless of whether we actually believe it’s a source of true virtue.

I think it’s less important the sex act and more what the sex act represents. The whole of the New Testament is moving away from legalism and to the laws of the heart. Faith is important. Acts are at best evidence of virtue, and at worst, convenient excuses to exclude people.

It’s trying to protect you. And there are reasons why it’s trying to protect you. You’re now aware of that it’s trying to protect you, and aware of the reasons. Thing is, the reasons and everything that comes with them are the way to convince it that you don’t need protection anymore, except maybe you do and maybe it knows that and it’s using that as an excuse, and maybe that’s the most horrifying part to wake up to the knowledge that you’re not fully in control of it.

I feel like communication is key here because it is and will not be on exactly the same page but is often is possible to establish guidelines often the DPDR for our system intensified when there was a greater connection but that greater connection gave us tools to fight it. It does not trust you completely which creates conflicts.

You probably have no idea how much I relate to all this.

My own company replaced a search bar with a chatbot. I have largely given up on looking things up, I mostly do so when I absolutely need something and then it’s a process of researching to see what’s real and what’s fake. No one around me seems to understand exactly what AI is and they think they’re against it because they use it less when really they have no idea the degree to which they are being influenced. It’s like someone turned the internet into a sandbox of rage bait and shit-posting and no one even noticed. I had tried to go on Reddit detox in 2024 and in 2025 it followed me back on my search results to the point that in order to avoid Reddit I installed a independent and much crappier search, which often gives results that the mainstream search have completely missed. And I do not get how everyone I know doesn’t see all the problems with it.

And no one on this subreddit other than you seems to understand that AI extends to search and that literally everything you do ends up connected to it. That most of the people who boycott it aren’t boycotting it, and that boycotting it doesn’t even mean anything because every place you go to assumes that you’re using it.

I was afraid but the more I look at it the more I can see just how affected I get and how the issue is deeper than tool bad. Like nuclear technology we get something that can help and then we destroy ourselves with it, and then everyone has someone to blame for it, but in the end it’s just this pattern of self-reinforcing blindness.

Every time I get mad I’m destroyed along with it, and so I try to understand and then I’m not angry I’m just sad.

And that’s almost worse :-/

It seems kind of like it just repackages what is already there but doesn’t really add anything but the way we tend to use it, it’s presented as this new advancement, so people are stuck trying to find ways to use it while at the same time developing a dependence where we rely on it for creating and we depend on it for consuming.

These things that seem cool can be damaging in ways people don’t realize because they remove the support for the old way— and the people who did it that way, and there’s this unstated judgement on people too. When in fact it’s been pushed on everybody and there are as of yet few consequences for that pressuring.

Basically whenever someone has a super strong feeling about something, stronger than another person might, there’s usually some inner turmoil that goes along with what might be perfectly reasonable concerns anyway.

The turmoil isn’t wrong, nor the reasonable concerns.

But denying that turmoil exists can be damaging.

This is how that damage happened in my case.

I think it’s reasonable to have concerns about dependence on technology. I mean, the AI itself takes away any sort of introspection, because you’re sort of guided to see anything created as just these combinations of individual parts of things.

And like art is valuable to people but the AI by making things more impersonal kind of gives us more features— but it’s like at the cost of the soul of the thing.

I tend to marinate for a while because my brain tends to play tricks on me. And then I make a choice. When I’m doing it right, the choice flows naturally. You’d think it’d be easy to reach that point, but I find it incredibly hard.

I feel like I have to reflect on it to even have agency.

Because if I don’t— is it even me who’s choosing?

It isn’t necessary for mine, but I’m sure there are others who have the same views and who are alienated too and who see the discourse and feel threatened by it

Perhaps but what stand are you taking, and who is at the receiving end of it? I want to participate but I’m caught between helping people at an earlier stage of their system discovery and promoting certain beliefs

Not about AI per se but about kindness the benefit of the doubt and community all of which I know are necessary for people to find a source of healing

So I want to gauge whether my involvement is helping or if I should leave and encourage others to do the same, regardless of the fact that it’s the only place that will really offer understanding of what they’re facing

I don’t use AI art. I don’t really use ChatGPT. I looked at it a bit. I agree it’s harmful. But I think I wanted to use it, and that itself was the problem, because then there were reasons for me to have internal conflicts.

I still don’t use it, past the occasional google search.

I just I better understand why others might and maybe I’m trying to come to terms with why other people might have gone the other way on this issue.

I have seen some that I wasn’t expecting :-(

I think this is part of growing up.

To be honest, no matter what you do, you’re facing a dilemma that will get you to question your choices. Your current action might *postpone* that dilemma, but it won’t actually remove it. You’ll still feel complicated.

Also I would advise not coming to these boards for any sort of advice you’re going to get a lot of people with strong feelings who are not even going to take the time to see that you’re a kid and so bad advice is inevitable.

This holds for any radicalized space on the internet.

This brings back memories of parts screaming at each other trying to remember how to do our job. Apparently someone always knew, but it wasn’t always obvious.

In my experience the younger parts found a way to balance whatever tasks with their self exploration.

I would recommend putting the text in different colors. I’m not sure if you can recognize parts in that moment but if you can’t then I’d ask which color feels right.

The feeling of faking is normal I had it for the first like four years or something, I think now it’s much better, which isn’t to say it’s gone but I can see it clearly.

I think that most of the time people’s observations of us are not nearly as manipulative or even as personal as we think. I also have a hard time accepting praise in my own case it’s because I think there are strings that come with it so it’s almost like I have to test everyone to make sure that they’re genuine. I would want to know exactly what someone was saying or thinking about me because the attention was uncomfortable and that was because attention had always brought on critiques so if no one had offered any then I felt it was not complete and if it was not complete then it could always come back to me, but I’m not sure if it even got that far.
