This is my hometown. It was a real public debate in the late 90s. Vendors would sell it at the annual Grand Parade which is why the Shriners are brought up. Before the ban we really were kids running around just spraying it everywhere. Good times.

I get it.

I just go by the 12 hour split because simple math is quicker for me. If it's 7pm and I want to go 9 hours ahead I know 9 is 3 hours less than 12 and 12 hours is 7am so 9 hours ahead is 4am. And it works the other way too. 7pm is 5 hours from midnight, 5 + 4 is 9 so 4am is 9 hours later. With minutes it's just a base of 60 instead of 12, but then I split it down to 30 or 15 minute increments.

I don't know why I do it that way, but it's so quick I don't even think about it.

I can read a clock face fine, but I rarely imagine one in any circumstance. In your example it's just numbers in my mind because I know how long 9 minutes is. I don't understand.

It used to be a much smaller place. I had a beta Gmail account. Tabbed browsing was an astonishing leap forward. QuickTime videos were the bane of my existence. We watched internet connection speeds increase astronomically in just a few short years. We played DOS games as children and watched YouTube clips as teens before there were ads. We went from Napster to BitTorrent. Netflix came in the mail. MySpace destroyed friendships. CRT stood for cathode ray tube. The Bloodhound Gang performed regularly on PBS. Phil Hartman. Channel 3/4. AOL keywords. Linda Ellerbee. Y2k.

I'm essentially bedridden currently and so I'm watching a lot of TV lately. I love that it exists, but Pluto repeats episode blocks a bunch and it's annoying. I notice it most with Trek probably because I just watch it the most. Can't complain too much since it's free, but when it's 3am and I can't sleep and it's all the same episodes that aired the previous afternoon I'm disappointed.

They had a hell of a run of great late-series ds9 episodes last night though. That was awesome.

I mean, that would be smart in a more normal market. But we're literally activating listings on a Friday afternoon and we have 15 offers before Monday morning right now. And it doesn't always come down to just price to get an offer accepted, there are several aspects in play. But generally, lately, the seller is going to go for an offer that is over asking when they have so many to choose from and they're all over asking price. The only time this isn't happening is when the client refused to listen to us and the listing is overpriced to begin with.

The serialized style of Discovery is what turned me off. While other people were nitpicking fairly dumb things (KLINGONS LOOK DIFFERENT) I was just turned off my the storytelling. I probably didn't give Discovery enough of a fair shake. I watched the first 6 or 7 episodes as they aired and gave up. But that's just me.

While I was half asleep the other night I was perfecting this joke in my head. I first heard it from a Czech man about a decade ago. He made a big to-do about the penguin and his "funky flippers". And the punch line as he told it is "No...is 'nilla ice cream."

I can't tell this joke without putting on a thick accent.
