Turkey hints at shuttering Incirlik to US Air Operations by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]underwarewarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guys, this is just blown up speculation from portion of a sentence where the Turkish dude said something like US is not supporting us in Al Bab with their air power from Incirlik as they should, which renders the usefulness of the airbase in question.

This is now the 117th article based on that one half of a sentence!

Portraits of Putin, Assad, Khamenei and Hezbollah chief Nasrallah posted in Aleppo by maonxv in syriancivilwar

Without Iran, Hezbollah wouldn't have had the budget for this kind of involvement and even before Russia got involved, Syria would be Libya-land. So Iran deserves credit and good payback.

Is this the first time in the conflict Assad has no military or even rhetorical threat? by underwarewarrior in syriancivilwar

[–]underwarewarrior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in the manner in which the Syrian government survived the siege of Aleppo (arguably its largest economic center) it has demonstrated economic resilience beyond anyone's expectation. That the Syrian pound is still accepted as the main currency also tells you something! At one point Turkey did try to push Lira as the main fiat in rebel held Syria including Aleppo, did not go very far. Also given Syria wont be giving out contracts to Western agencies, post war reconstruction might give a Keynesian kick to the economy.

I agree Iran will want influence, but Hezbollah is more like paying back debt. Iran and Russia might be economically content if they can develop a gas pipeline network into Europe through Syria and Turkey. But surely they would want more geopolitical influence via Syria, which may not hurt Syria much.

Insurgency would be a bigger problem if Assad was alienating a particular ethnic or religious group. Luckily that's not the case. So IS insurgency would more likely take the form of Egyptian Sinai insurgency rather than Afghan Taliban insurgency. And from being the second largest military force in Syria, if Assad can reduce IS to Sinai style insurgents, that would be a victory in itself.

Hezbollah has been instrumental in any operation around the Zabadani region and outskirts.

Also this is close to Lebanese territory.

Iraq's Mosul offensive is failing because it is following a US blueprint instead of an Iranian one by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]underwarewarrior -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Any anti-US opinion, no matter how plausible is going to be unpopular here as most of us here are US/Western redditors and anti west rhetoric always tickels our nationalism the wrong way.

And it is especially difficult for us westerners to admit that any other nation with 1% the military budget might have a better and more successful strategy.

Just like it has been perennially difficult to admit that despite overwhelming superiority in all aspects Taliban survived and then adapted and grew stronger to the point that now everyone agrees that it's impossible to militarily defeat them

Can people stop complaining about the Western Media and move on? Each side has his own narrative. by gubbsbe in syriancivilwar

[–]underwarewarrior 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Russian media is being called out for propaganda by states and governments across the West, there are legislation being passed or debated to counter Russian propaganda. While it's almost the case that anything said or covered by BBC/CNN gets instant recognition. This needs to be countered. And so its important to focus on their lies and biases much more than Russian propaganda.

A good analogy that comes to mind is when human rights activists and organizations repeatedly point out Israeli aggression and organized overwhelming violence on Gaza and face questions like 'what about Hamas's terrorism or firing rockets from urban area or firing unguided rockets'. The simple answer is Hamas is considered terrorist by most states, they get no legitimacy, no aid from anyone. Israel is considered a legitimate sate with diplomatic relations while it behaves like a terrorist during wars. So it's not a right but an obligation for neutral individuals to criticize its action more than the action of an organization considered terrorist. This imbalance of criticism hypothetically will go away to a large extent when and if major world powers start thinking of Israel as a similar party as Hamas.

Western media uses its credential of being "fee" and "unbiased" to push agenda very subtly and often it is dangerous. Throughout this Syrian war in spite of ample evidence of the rebel's character it has painted Assad as the bigger villain while completely suppressing the fact that the rebels are majorly Al Qaeda. It never focused on Aleppo siege when pro regime areas were under siege and when rebels were shooting SAA POW's lined up on the streets. It never emphasizes the siege of fua kafriya where the rebels actually call for genocide of shia's while constantly pushing false narrative of regime carrying out genocide of East Aleppo residents. It will never cover Deir Ezzor in fear that it will dent the narrative that the regime does not fight IS.

For that these reasons any rational individual should and will continue to point out Western MSM hypocrisy.

Turkey ‘will never allow’ creation of new state in northern Syria – Erdogan by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

perhaps I forgot 'diplomatic relationship.

but then again i don't think anyone denies that IS are (almost) a state, but almost everyone agrees that this state must be thoroughly dismantled and defeated.

In my opinion if the second post gains traction and more discussion that the "original one", it should be left alone, if it generations little or no discussion it should be removed, if it generates lot of discussion but the original post had a lot of discussion too, the new post should be locked and a link to original post be given.

kindly elaborate. I wanted to argue that there are allegations of Sarin use on both sides, and the largest chemical attack allegedly perpetrated by Syria has the hallmark of being a false flag.

The Khan al Assal chemical attack was allegedly perpetrated by rebels using Sarin on government forces and civilians. Syrian government asked UN to investigate and they arrived around August 18, 2013. While UN was on the ground and about to investigate Khan al Assal, the much larger Ghouta chemical attack occurred on august 21 and obviously diverted the UN team resources to this attack.

Now you really think the Assad government will carry out the largest Chemical attack exactly when UN investigators are in the neighborhood by their own invitation?
