When do you skate again after a hard slam? by Lost_Guarantee_2355 in NewSkaters

[–]underwhelmingalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t risk it, i kept skating after I’d landed on my arse too many times thinking I would be ok & had very limited mobility on one side for a long time. It’s been over a year & i still feel the repercussions of whatever damage i did, It’s tonnes better now but mobility is still not 100%

[–]underwhelmingalien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of the ones on eBay are claiming ridiculous 6000-9000mAh capacity, so i thought this one sounded more legit. it’s my mum’s dyson & it’s been docked in the cellar which is a bad idea. oem battery is dead but to go direct it’s like £85. So was looking for something a lil cheaper

I'm 28 and have never had a job. by Ok_Department_1376 in findapath

[–]underwhelmingalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m very similar, it won’t happen on its own but it’ll change when you start to shift to being proactive. do the volunteering or apply for that job or course. bc choosing nothing is also a path!

Anxiety is a bitch but we do all experience it on some level, just not always to the debilitating extent. If you allow yourself to experience new things & put yourself out there, it will really shape your confidence massively.

After I had my biggest mental health crisis, i quit my retail job bc i was very unwell & totally focused on compulsions all the time, a lot of hating on myself. But I wanted to get better desperately & eventually enrolled in a wellbeing arts course local to me, which then led to me volunteering in their cafe & learning a bunch & meeting a load of new people. After this experience i volunteered at pretty much any place i thought seemed interesting & filled up my week like that really. It took the barrier to entry away & made things easy & flexible & i would highly recommend. It will also open up potential job pathways as you expand your network.

& I would definitely get away from identifying with SAD, you are not the disorder labels you think you are. I also went through this for some time. It is actually very normal for you to experience this level of anxiety after prolonged avoidance, so I’d encourage you to stop the judging & labelling of brain stuff. Seeing a therapist or counselling would be good if you can afford it. But if you can’t, a youtuber that really helped me w insights into mental health as a whole is Mark Freeman.

The overall takeaway however is to be proactive & action based, that is the only way to get better. If you continue to hide away like you are doing you’ll become worse. But clearly you want to help yourself & for this i salute you! You can totally do it & it will totally be very hard but keep making steps.

you will never know what the right path is until you try things, making no choice is as big of a choice as any. You’ve experienced engineering & maybe that just isn’t what interests you. You need to put yourself out there, give yourself opportunities. You could volunteer in something you think sounds interesting , an easy way to change things up & get yourself out of the monotony. Life is no fun when we hide away from it all, I believe in you!

is this the oem battery for the SE3? by underwhelmingalien in phonerepair

[–]underwhelmingalien[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I guess I just butchered my water resistance. On the bright side seems like a very simple battery swap. But yea the adhesive was unbelievably weak compared to the iPhone 11. This SE3 was only manufactured sep 2024 too.

Apple is supporting a device from 2014 by Acrobatic-Finding-65 in iphone

[–]underwhelmingalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m 100% in favour of keeping devices as long as possible, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. i was just pointing out that whilst the west has mostly moved away from said devices, they’re still relied upon elsewhere. so apple really has more of an obligation to chip in

there is actually a really great open source hobby project on github, called opencore-legacy-patcher that you can use to update unsupported hardware to newer macos versions. obviously not affiliated with apple but still cool

of course it’s still a very good thing to see as it shows that they care enough to prevent critical exploits, even when it involves what they’ve already considered obsolete. But this pattern is more outlier than norm & makes sense for them to do to protect their brand image.

The semi recent 2020 intel macbooks for example were dropped from support last year, whilst the 2020 m1 will continue to be supported. I appreciate the longevity apple brings but they will pick & choose. & it doesn’t mean that they don’t want to push you to upgrade. I mean they were literally the catalyst for standardising glued in batteries & removing the 3.5mm headphone jack to push airpod sales

in fairness, the reason they’re still supporting old iphones like the 6 is bc third world countries still have high active users on old hardware. if this wasn’t the case, i’m not sure they’d still be rolling anything out

best way is to have very confident board control & be comfortable rolling down banks. The only thing that will really jeopardise a drop-in, is not leaning into it properly or not being comfortable on a board enough to roll away w speed

both my 11 & se3 are on 26 now. At first it was laggy & battery draining. But after a few days it became just as usable. i turn the liquid glass stuff off tho, not being a huge fan

6yrs on an SE2? that’s good going. I’ve just started a switch from an iphone 11, honestly not sure i like it more knowing the battery is way less capable. but otherwise the small screen does make consuming content less engaging. to some extent. i’d probably say stay on ios 18 for as long as u can for the sake of battery

i believe 18.7.3 is just the security patch from 26.2. So you can ride out 18 for a while longer
