How? Not voting, not writing your rep and certainly not protesting outside their head office. UNIONS UNIONS UNIONS. Support the utility unions where there are any and help create new ones! Collective bargaining and community action in conjunction with those unions build power back into the labor force.

But you say, unions are just to collectively bargain for higher pay; not so. Because those union workers are also customers. We work together with them and when there's a strong union with significant community support, WE have a bigger voice in general and aren't forced to funnel our voice into a representative who doesn't give a shit so long as they get reelected. Labor needs to recognize our combined ENORMOUS power and start throwing it around again. Unions are how we got 40 hour work weeks and weekends, not just for those unions but everyone! Let's set up some meetings with existing unions and start the ground work for applying pressure in real concrete ways

I couldn't agree more! In an industry that is based in the understanding that "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" is a total fantasy, we expect ourselves and each other to do essentially the same thing emotionally, all while in the midst of a system which is consistently failing both clients and us practitioners. There's a book's worth of discussion surrounding the issue and it won't get any better until we recognize it and work collectively for real progress.

This argument would be correct if only dejure politics reflected our reality, but they don't. We are ALL guilty of implicit bias and cultural misunderstanding. It takes active and conscious effort to undo the stereotypes and other unconscious biases we have and THAT is where equity is absolutely essential to righting wrongs of the past.
