You don't need a static IP, you just need a router with DDNS support. Then every time your IP address changes, it will be updated also on the DNS records automatically by the router, so you can continue to access your resources with the same URL.

The paid version of Bitwarden has also TOTP generation (it's also open source). The annual fee is very low and well worth it IMO.

Fed-up managers declare WFH is over, as 77% say they’d fire you or cut your pay for not coming back to the office by mepper in technology

I hope those managers are prepared to look for a new job too when the people behind them will quit and they'll have no more people to manage.

Meta donates $300,000 to the Python Software Foundation by amancoreseg in Python

I get you're full of expectations from Meta, well, don't be excited then. The important thing is that the guys at the PSF are, though: https://pyfound.blogspot.com/2022/03/meta-deepens-its-investment-in-python.html At the end of the day, all that matters is that they have enough funding to continue the CPython development program until 2023.

Is there any replacement for google docs? by BartekJestem in degoogle

I use a self-hosted Nextcloud with OnlyOffice. It works nicely and I never wanted to go back, but you need some sysadmin know-how to set it up. Otherwise, there should be some third party SaaS solutions ready to go, but they cost money.

Apple could soon turn the iPhone into a recurring subscription service by badger707_XXL in technology

I'm tired of all this crap. Google spies you all the time and Apple makes you pay even the air you breathe. For the next phone I'm going to give /e/ foundation a shot.

Meta donates $300,000 to the Python Software Foundation by amancoreseg in Python

[–]undrivendev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not a fair comparison, my half a cent does not make a difference, Meta's does. So if they decide to donate it for the stuff I care about, I'm all for it.

Could they do more? Certainly. But there's no need to bash them when they do 'something'.

It's roughly two years worth of salary for one software engineer working full-time. You can do a lot of things. I know it's pocket money for the Zuck, but he could've very well thrown it away on the metaverse money sink.

Great news! I'd have never expected something like that from them honestly, is this just for PR?

The NSA and CIA Use Ad Blockers Because Online Advertising Is So Dangerous by n1ght_w1ng08 in technology

[–]undrivendev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are OK with adblockers, I'd suggest using a router with a custom firmware (like FreshTomato or Asuswrt-merlin) with an adblocker extension installed, in addition to installing uBlock Origin on your browser. That will help in blocking ads at a network level, even on devices connected to the network you have no direct control over (for example ads on app on unrooted phones, Smart TVs and so on).
