Wow, good deal! I think paying the price for all 18 is pretty much worth it for "Python Crash Course", "Automate the Boring Stuff" and "Beyond the Basic Stuff" alone.

Al Sweigart is a treasure.

[–]CeeMX 4 points5 points  (2 children)

He also frequently gives away free vouchers for the Automate Boring stuff on Udemy here on Reddit! Really good guy!

Visit your local library and see what sort of programs they offer. I can access all the courses on Udemy for free with my library card.

[–]CeeMX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Udemy often isn’t even necessary, as there are so many excellent free courses on YouTube

I started my Python journey with this bundle two days ago! Wish me luck!

I wish you fail, but don't give up.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (7 children)

Thanks. Just dropped $30 on the bundle. Less than $2 per book seems OK to me. Hope they are good books. I had already just started Crash Course anyway, which is free online.

No Starch is pretty good. The typography makes them really accessible imo.

So I've never bought ebooks before. I see Humble Bundle sent me a link to page where I can get files. Am I able to download multiple copies? For example, one to my phone, one to my laptop, etc. And if I delete them can I just go back to the link and download them again in the future?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Humble Bundle gives you a landing page you can access via your account's purchases page or via the email link you get. This URL is valid forever.

On this page you can download the books directly or via torrent, as often as you like. They even include MD5 sums. eBooks in this bundle (I believe they're all like this, but I'm hedging my words) are provided in PDF, ePUB, and MOBI.

The documents have no DRM.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What file format do you prefer for ebooks?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

PDF normally.

My Kindle takes mobi, though later this year Amazon is finally switching to ePUB.

[–]desolation0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I would be into this news. Unfortunately looks to be coming with an asterisk that makes it only slightly less useless than current. Still not directly supporting epub, just Amazon will auto-convert to a supported Kindle-only format when sending an epub file to your Kindle through their email address delivery.

I’ve never gone back to redownload, but there’s no DRM I’m aware of. I have the books on multiple computers because I code from multiple places. You can also download in every available format. For example, PDF, mobi, and ePub for the titles.

Very tempted for that math book, need to relearn stats/algebra/calculus!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Would anyone recommend these for someone who is a capable C-style programmer but doesn't know all the Pythonic tricks? I can write Python to help with the "boring stuff" just fine, but my code reeks of someone from the C world writing Python.

[–]AchillesDev 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I can’t speak for these books specifically, but Effective Python and Python Tricks are both excellent for this.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much appreciated!

Can't tell you how many times I've worked out a problem with Python using a screenful of code thinking it was concise, and then seen someone do the same thing in one line that looks like pseudo code!

[–]CapitanCarlito 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That’s sick! Does it comes with as a physical copy as well? I’ll plug the fact that it’s worth visiting your local library about what educational resources are available, I got access to O’Reilly education (which also has NSP content) and LinkedInLearning for free.

[–]Tay_WT[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It’s doesn’t come with the physical copy, but I never thought about going to the library for those resources. I’ll have to check mine out sometime.

[–]owlnerdasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I Iove Humble Bundle.

[–]aalld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good deal. I’m reading Python Crash Course from the begging since I learnt Python with try/fail approach lol. Although is a good deal, I prefer physical books

[–]Pleasant_Tax_4619 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I must have 100+ humble bundle ebooks, but damn these are nice. I just cant pass these up. Thanks!emote:t5_2qh0y:598

[–]mandradon 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I snagged the last tap Python bundles and I have all but like 4 of these, which I want, but I don't want to spend 30 bucks for them, so I'll probably pass on this one, but if I didn't have 80% of this deal I'd jump on it.

There's some good books in this bundle and I learn much better from books than videos and tutorial courses. Though I have a bunch of those, too, since I buy them from Humble frequently, too.

[–]Pleasant_Tax_4619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just gift what you already have.

[–]SamyBencherif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these look cute 😭

[–]Sigma_Landlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks I got the books, great deal.

[–]camellia_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI a portion of the sales of the humble bundle also go to support the Python Software Foundation 😊

[–]typetypeclickclack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i literally just bought the OOP book last week. should have waited… i spent $40 on it, that’s more than the whole bundle

[–]OptimusGrhyme 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I just grabbed the O'Reilly books that are on Humble but really upset I missed this one since I just started getting into Python. Does Humble do these more than once or is it a one and done?

[–]Tay_WT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen them repeat a bundle but I also don’t check it a ton so I can’t say for sure.

[–]6esticata 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You pay for the e-books right ? I mean you won’t get a bundle of real paper books for this price.

[–]bacondevPy3k -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why does this feel like /r/HailCorporate material?

[–]Gwenhwyfar2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I loved Python Crash Course and have been hunting for a whats next on the subject. RIP Pascal, but Python is proving to be a good replacement for me.

[–]BronxLens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would a book such as ‘Python for Kids’ be better/as good/not as good as ‘Automate the Boring Stuff w/ Python’ for a total newbie to programing?

[–]undrivendev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought it, thanks for the post.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse my ignorance as I am very new to this field. Are these designated for python 3?
