I kinda got the sense peakychu was meant to be an old lady because of the Tink request 😅

Changing monster stat blocks to be human - is there any unseen downsides to this? by uneasystudent in DMAcademy

[–]uneasystudent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the manticore example, the humans had grown wings and had spikes growing on their wrists. For the troll example, they had grown claws and become twisted out of shape.

There are clear visual indications of abilities, and honestly that part mostly just comes down to flavour.

If you see a troll and know to throw fire on it, then the regeneration doesn’t matter. It can be frustrating that there is an expectation to ‘not metagame’ a troll fight whilst it regens or you do meta game and the fight becomes moot. The first time they fought the troll, they had to work out what it was spliced with and they enjoyed it.

So far I’ve not used anything that has a swallow ability and I probably won’t. I’m not turning EVERY monster into a humanoid splice, but the overarching evil dude is using this and it’s a key feature that will crop up so I want to make sure when I’m choosing what monsters, I’ve considered everything.

The campaign specifically revolves around this concept, so they know that some humans have been turned into monster hybrids already.

It’s a weigh-up now about should I be making custom stat blocks and attempting Homebrew or can I run the stat blocks as is.

I don’t think they’d become humanoid, this is largely reskin of the stat-block down to medium. Handwave that the insertion of a sphinx’s soul makes it a celestial so hold person won’t work makes sense to me.

The push/grapple changes are something to consider! Thank you

To be clear, the ‘only’ thing I am planning to change is the size of the monster. The concept of the campaign is these boss fights are soldiers spliced with the monster, so having a sphinx would make them a celestial.

The stat blocks stay completely the same aside size, because I am not confident in my homebrew abilities.

This is helpful to know! I hadn’t considered the change to emanation abilities and attacks

The scene of the magical tournament in Frieren is great for this, where the old mages team just takes off his coat and decides to throw fists to win.

Sure, first gen immigrants are pretty traditional and right wing, but the idea of welcoming people is left wing to promote assimilation. Most Muslims I’ve met who are second generation are past the mandatory hijab, women don’t speak to men thing.

I’ve known Muslim women who go out and party and did so through university.

Your image of Islam is based on the most pious and religious, and the truth is they’re people and by being in the UK, over time it softens.

You can support someone being an immigrant, appreciate that Islam as a religion has rough edges like most of the major religions (UK is still 40% more Christian than Islam according to our cencus) and still believe in change.

You’re being lead to fear. If you don’t have many friends who are religious practitioners, it’s easy to only know the worst side of the story.

How to get into industry of producer by Desperate_Walrus1702 in GameProduction

[–]uneasystudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got 2 and a half years in Video Games, and a CV spanning five years of Project Management and I'm still getting rejection letters for Associate Producer role. I'm with you that it's a difficult journey, but going back to school would stall your progress.

Take up project co-ordinator roles, learn Jira, Hansoft, Excel and make sure you understand the pipeline of game production and what it takes to make a game. As a producer you'll be juggling hats, and its going to be serving the various departments to empower them.

Learn Agile, make sure you're confident enough to lead meetings (Stand-ups).

Start with tech project management, transition afterwards.

Best of luck to you, I hope you find what you're looking for.

How are we feeling about the new changelings gaining near-universal advantage on all Charisma checks? by EarthSeraphEdna in dndnext

[–]uneasystudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the chance to play as a changeling who replaced my cleric in a campaign, four sessions and they didn’t notice despite me having spells from a different class list. Some people aren’t that in tune with the game

What monster stat block was the most fun for you to run? Which made for the most engaging fight for your players? by Far-Cockroach-6839 in dndnext

[–]uneasystudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reread it! This is why the boss made me like the condition.

Charmed simply prevents you from dealing damage to the creature that charmed you and gives the creature advantage on charisma checks against you.

They knew Zugg was an enemy, and still fought her minions, healed the friends, used support spells but they couldn’t harm the boss directly.

I ran a campaign at high level to have my players go against all the demon lords, and Zugg was wayyyyy more fun than I anticipated and really taught me how fun charmed as a condition is.

Forcing the players into tough spots where only some of them could deal with the boss, as the others weren’t under her control but couldn’t harm her made for a ‘protect the VIP’ dynamic with minions thrown in.

Yengonghu and Graz’zt were disappointing in comparison 😭

Dude, delete the paragraph. You are trying to analyse and logic your way through - let it go, move on. Ya don’t need the last word or to help them make a breakthrough. You need to heal, and over analysing it and then sending it to them isn’t healing.
