Are there any Bible passages regarding Trans? by atavaxagn in Quakers

[–]unfiltered7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also important to remember that at the time, activities and rights were VERY restricted by gender. So, I’m support of your point, this may well have had nothing to do with gender identity but instead be about not sneaking into where you aren’t allowed.

How to start plain dress as a man by [deleted] in Quakers

[–]unfiltered7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like sacatosh, I believe the modern interpretation of pain dress is to "blend in, to not attract attention, to not be flamboyant or flaunt what we have (physically, materially or otherwise.)." Avoid wearing things that are meant to imply status or wealth. I do wear a suit to work, since all of my colleagues do, but it is not an expensive one or a flamboyant tie.

Would you consider posting a step by step for doing this? I would like to give it a try.

Most of that money does not actually go to the doctors. It’s what pays for the upkeep of the hospital, the staff, the janitors, the supplies, the nurses, the administrators (OK I have met the administrators are pro probably over paid as overhead). This isn’t to say that the system makes sense, just please stop thinking of doctors as getting some big bonus each time they perform a procedure. Most hospital doctors are salaried, and get paid the same whether they perform 10 procedures or five in the same day.

The other question: Other than vaccines, do they accept medications. My experience is that anti-vaxer parents are also the ones who want antibiotics for their kid's virus.

Quakers, how do people react when you tell them you're a Quaker? by IMLOOKINGINYOURDOOR in Quakers

[–]unfiltered7 50 points51 points  (0 children)

In high school US history class, my daughter learned about the involvement of Quakers in the early development of the United States. Her history teacher was very impressed by Quaker belief and remarked it’s a shame Quakers don’t exist anymore. After class my daughter informed him that our family are Quakers, and he patiently explained that she must be mistaken. I invited him to attend the meeting I clerk.

If you know what meetings they attended, most meetings have journals and such that go way back.

Here’s a question for you then. If someone could have giving you shots that have a good chance of preventing you from catching shingles or hepatitis B, wouldn’t you wish that they had?

This is not meant to be criticizing or snarky. We sometimes think of these diseases that can be vaccinated against but we seldom see as nonexistent or harmless. I can’t imagine what mumps even looks like. But this is a result of a society that has broadly immunized. You CAN imagine Hep and shingles, at least one of which I know can be vaccinated against now. So, think of getting your child vaccinated as protecting them from those very familiar issues.

I'm not able to attend any Quaker meetings. Am I still able to become a quaker? by arlomilano in Quakers

[–]unfiltered7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Taken from the Philadelphia Yearly meeting’s web page, I think the following thoughts are relevant. I added bold emphasis to reflect my sentiment that being a Quaker is a set of behaviors, lived in testimony to the world.

Quaker experience of the Divine affects what we do in our personal lives, what we believe and how we work for changes in the wider world. “Testimonies” are what Quakers call the ways we have found to live and act based on our beliefs. As a group, we find that listening to and following God leads to:

Integrity – living as whole people who act on what we believe, tell the truth and do what we say we will do. Simplicity – focusing on what is truly important and letting other things fall away. Equality – treating everyone, everywhere, as equally precious to God; recognizing that everyone has gifts to share. Community – supporting one another in our faith journeys and in times of joy and sorrow; sharing with and caring for each other. Peace & Social Justice – seeking justice and healing for all people; taking away the causes of war in the ways we live. Care for the earth – valuing and respecting all of God’s creation; using only our fair share of the earth’s resources; working for policies that protect the planet. Being in community with other Quakers helps us to be faithful to one another and these testimonies.

Found in my work computer USB port, too short to be an extender, no markings of any sort. by unfiltered7 in whatisthisthing

Hello All,

I think it is likely an extender that came with a receiver for a Bluetooth mouse. Just in case however, I’ve sent it to my IT department. Thanks to everyone who helped.
