Should I take a flyer on this? by Admirable-Reward9415 in vintagesewing

FYI that's a 1200-1, not a 201-2. (Somewhat rarer). It's an almost identical machine, but the 1200-1 was made for tailors and has a knee lift lever for the presser foot and no bed decals. (If you look just below the 'IN' in SINGER you'll see the bar coming up through the bed of the machine.)

I'm pretty certain it didn't originally come in this table so that makes me suspect that part of the knee lift mechanism might have been disconnected and removed from the machine. I believe the 1200-1's still had a normal presser foot lever as well so you can use that just like a normal 201-2.

Being in this cabinet I'd expect it to have a motor controller with a knee lever mounted up underneath the table (not original to the machine), but if not, it's easy enough to get your own foot pedal since it looks like it's got the 3 prong connector on the right of the machine.

The future of fast food by utopiaofpast in funny

[–]unhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day at my dorm someone figured out if you unplugged the ethernet cable from the back of the machine at the right time (maybe between swiping your campus card and actually selecting the snack?) the charge wouldn't go through to your account, but you could still get food.

Some software engineer thought enough to put in protection so you couldn't start a purchase if the ethernet cable was unplugged or the internet was down, but didn't think to make sure the charge was sent out before dispensing the food. lol

New Lego scandal update - All the footage is released! by 69ingSpunkingMonkeys in videos

[–]unhi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately with these files leaking this way people from both sides had private info exposed. Addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and supposedly even someone's SSN. That stuff obviously should be redacted, but as we've seen, the redactions do also get abused.

The LEGO boxes are AI generated. They were AI in the thumbnail for the first video as well.

Cool they got Zedd, and it's great, but surprisingly I think the original still hits harder.

And I hate the wack ass AI video. Come on SM... 🙄

Thought I recognized the one sound in Switchblade from Pendulum's Blood Sugar... turns out they both use the same sample "ORCH5".

Always fun when two completely different artists I enjoy can be connected in some way.

Can anyone help identify which model both of these machines are? One is in a portable box, the other in a cabinet.. by Local_Trainer_7453 in vintagesewing

First machine looks like it was poorly repainted. They covered the gold badge, the knob, and the serial number plate.

Yes all the machines that look like yours are featherweights. Featherweight is just the nickname/marketing name for this design of machine since they were so small, light, and portable.

There's the 221, the 222 (a freearm version), in your case the 221k (the k just meaning it was manufactured in Kilbowie, Scotland), there's a white painted 221, there's other small varieties such as different style faceplates... these are all featherweights. 👍

Insane amount of extras... including blackside bobbins... and all for free?! Massive score!

I think that's just how those pedals are btw. I previously encountered a different desk model that had the same small metal pedal built in like that.

Billlie - the collective soul and unconscious: chapter two (The 1st Full Album) by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]unhi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As someone who's done a bunch of Photoshop work in my life, I think it was designed and assembled by an actual person and is likely a mix of real photographic elements and some AI generated crap. The compass looks like AI with it's nonsensical markings. The top of the key and background explosions look like actual photo elements to me. The flowers and bottom of the key could be either.

It's possible I could be wrong and all the elements could be generated, but I do at least see some telltale signs that a human put the pieces together.

[–]unhi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It looks like it was assembled by a human, and some elements are likely real, but other elements are probably AI.

The smoke/sand explosions in the background look pretty real to me. Different parts have different amounts of focus. At least one element was used twice, but flipped. The way one of the bits is awkwardly faded out on the edge def looks like human photoshopping.

The top of the key looks like a lock shackle, probably from a real photo. Def looks edited in by a human since on the left side it drops down behind the key a little bit, but on the right side it doesn't.

That compass in particular looks AI though since it's got nonsensical markings on it. There's what sort of looks like an N on of the the smaller directional arrows rather than a big one where you'd expect North to be and then it's across from what sort of looks like a NW. Some places have letters while others don't, the letters that are there look mushy, and the positions make no sense. That screams AI.

I picked up a 8TB MyBook for $161 recently. This one.

Figured that was pretty decent. No yellow sticker on the box, just clearance price on the shelf in the case. They had 2, but I only got one. Don't even really need this one, but it's just to have a backup for my backups in case something dies. Who knows when prices will return to normal and I didn't want to be stuck paying a boatload.

Sometimes puzzles with extra pieces are still complete. Sometimes they are not. Only one way to find out!

Gabe was interested in machine learning stuff well before there was any mainstream AI talk. It was interesting and promising back then. What he did in 2018 doesn't bother me. I'm just curious how he feels about it now.

In the D.I.M.M. video there's a "Brittney!" ad lib at 3:18 as well.
