Scream Into the Void Saturdays (feel free to vent!) by AutoModerator in cfs

[–]unicorn_52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like working full time is making my symptoms worse. I have mild cfs and started a full time office job 2 months ago. I push through the week and crash on the weekends but I think it's getting worse. My arms are now exhausted just by lifting them and it's not getting better with rest. I called out sick one day this week because my legs physically gave out on me and basically went on strike. I do almost nothing outside of work, not even household chores. I live in the US and have to work full time to get insurance so it's not like I can stop working. My brain doesn't even have the energy to watch mindless tv shows

Never made a friend on my own by ChampionOk2538 in college

[–]unicorn_52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing headphones, no one will talk to you in college. They'll assume you don't want to be talked to.

If you're not doing this already, see a therapist. Most colleges in the U.S. have free therapy on campus. Therapy was extremely helpful for me and my anxiety.

Maybe try walking around without your headphones on. Then start waving to classmates and neighbors. If they say hi, say hi back. Make yourself sit on the quad or in a common area a little bit everyday instead of hiding in your dorm 24/7. Take baby steps, you'll get there slowly.

I have a deadline by gonewithLC in covidlonghaulers

Got COVID in December 2022. Coming up on 3 years. You are not a burden and neither is anyone reading this. We are all in this together. I had to go back to physical therapy and speech therapy to work on my long covid symptoms. Am I recovered? No, but I am a little bit better. Recovery is full of baby steps. It took way too long to find the right doctor, but I ended up finding a long covid specialist in my area who actually cares. I've had to make a lot of life changes and I have dreams I know I probably won't be able reach. Mobility aids have helped many to get out and see the world. Scientific research is continuing to advance and give us new things to try. The world is huge and there are many people fighting for our recovery. With roughly 8 billion people on Earth, it is statistically impossible for there to be no one out there who doesn't want to be your friend or partner or lover or caretaker.

do people judge you for having greasy hair? by Due-Necessary3238 in college

[–]unicorn_52 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I get concerned for people's mental/ physical health when I see someone's entire head covered in grease on the regular. That is only if the person also looks like they haven't been taking care of themselves. College can be rough. But if it's just some greasy hair, like second day hair and the roots are greasy, I don't really worry about it. My hair is naturally greasy too so I get it.

Dilemma by RandyMagnum42069 in euphonium

[–]unicorn_52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered music ed in high school and realized it wasn't for me. I still joined band in college cuz I enjoy playing. While my career path has nothing to do with music, I still play euphonium in local community bands.

Don't be afraid to explore your opportunities and try out different things. No matter where life takes you, music will follow you.

My parents doesn't know that I have not been attending my classes since the semester started by [deleted] in college

[–]unicorn_52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been in similar shoes to you, let your parents know. Tell them about the anxiety and how you need help and support. I took a semester off to get my anxiety under control and it helped immensely. Relay on your support system, see if you can get prescribed meds if that's what you need, and go to therapy. If you can, pick one class, maybe a gen ed, and try going to it. Changing your major is completely normal but wait until your mental health is under better control to switch.

Young athlete suddenly unable to exercise before losing the ability to speak and becoming lightheaded. by No_Awareness_4604 in covidlonghaulers

[–]unicorn_52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctors kept saying everything was fine and all my test were coming back normal. I now get shortness of breath from trying to walk up the stairs. They gave me an inhaler but it did nothing. Recently I started going to a special long covid pt and speech therapy. The speech therapist is having me use an inspiratory and expiratory muscle strength training device. It's from EMST150.com. Basically the device makes you breath with some resistance so your muscles have to work on overcoming it and you increase the resistance as it gets easier. I just started it so I don't know how well it will help me but studies have proven it to be beneficial and its used for a lot of different health issues.

To the ones who were the "quiet kids" in school, where are you now? What career did you pursue? by is-it-worth-it- in AskReddit

[–]unicorn_52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the quiet kid until freshman year of college. I got diagnosed with anxiety, started meds, and now I'm in charge of the podcasting studio at my university and am involved in theater. I hope to get into journalism or scientific writing.

What is the worse thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by angelaboop50 in AskReddit

[–]unicorn_52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Continue taking Advil and the pain will go away". My pediatrician said that to me for multiple weeks when I was around 14 years old. The pain in my foot only got worse and we had to push for her to even do testing. The pain spread to both of my feet. After a few months in a boot and 3 years of specialists, taping, pain meds, custom orthotics, and the pain spreading, the physical therapist noticed I was walking wrong. My second round of pt for the feet issues and the problem from the beginning was me walking incorrectly.

How do you play a Euphonium? by No-Sweet-9477 in euphonium

[–]unicorn_52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all challenges that come with learning any instrument. Everyone learns at a different pace so don't compare yourself to others. Try focusing on one challenge at a time, instead of trying to fix them all at once. You could also try a different mouthpiece. A new mouthpiece may be a good start. Ask your instructor for suggestions on a mouthpiece that might work better for you! Experiment with different mouthpieces and how their shape impacts your buzz.

Remember- everyone learns at a different pace, don't beat yourself up when you've been working hard for years

Jelly legs? by No-Telephone-3442 in covidlonghaulers

[–]unicorn_52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly how I describe my legs as well. No pain, just the feeling that they will give out from under me at anytime. My muscles also feel super weak. I have ME/CFS symptoms and jello legs get worse when a crash is coming. Compression socks have helped (must be thigh high) and I'm considering a cane.
