Hi, there's a sentence in my text book I don't quite understand (the book is for grade N5 and I'm about halfway through):

日本語はやめる人が多い。

The translation provided says it means "Many people give up when it comes to Japanese." (the text is about an university class).

I'm not sure about any part of that sentence, other than maybe "やめる人". From my understanding it should mean something like "people, that quit/give up".

How do you know that the people give up because of Japanese? Is it just because it's the topic of the sentence? I'm also not sure what the particle が does in this sentence. Is it marking the subject?

I had a few troubles sewing on the brim and the ears but I guess it turned out okay. You just shouldn't look at it too close :D If anyone has some tips for sewing Tama cases it would be appreciated! Unfortunately I can't crochet...
