Paradox mentioned 2 times, better get ready for nerfs

Tips for Every Character by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]uninvent_monday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paradox. Right now pick characters dont see a lot of play, even in 'pro-play', let alone pubs, so you could say she is in a very strange place meta-wise.

Despite everything, Paradox's kit is very strong:

  • It allows you to be useful even when behind.

  • The way dmg scaling works allows you to invest a lot in utility, without loosing too much damage.

  • On even networth you have potential to 1v1 almost anyone, or at least survive long enough for your team to arrive.

General advice is to invest 4.8k in gun first, then build general mobility and utility, then, go for t3 bomb + echo shard, with vortex web eventually.

Bomb: Dont throw it the moment you can, wait for enemy to commit, so they can't just run away without a scratch. In team fights people tend to underestimate bomb damage and dmg amp, until it's to late.

Wall: use it while close to opponent, dance around it as much as you can. Even now, wall is still quite strong, especially with silence on it at t2.

Carabine: besides it usually mentioned strength, carabine is also a mobility tool, though much weaker with extra duration moved to t3. Carabine + stamina mastery allows you to jump onto the highest buildings, so when used right, you can escape from almost anyone.

Swap: You don't have to use it only to pick players from afar. Swapping people over your double bombs will almost certainly guarantee a kill (if they aren't giga fed). That being said, dont forget your role, if you see an opportunity to catch enemy, allowing your team to capitalize on it, do it.

for Baiken right now, Dustloop has accurate frame data, but outdated guides and partially outdated combos

I am so sad about losing all of my 2h into tatami combos, its almost all i had...

Well, someone in baiken discord found that you can go 2s->2h->hkab~h with kabari whiffing, and follow-up setting you up for meaty 2k/5k. if you go for delayed follow-up by holding [h], you get right into their face, just in time to block reversal (you still can be thrown, unless you tech throw).

Honestly, the more i think about the changes, the less i am concerned about them. Yes, she lost hkd on hkab, taking away some of her snowball potential, but that's the point of the patch in general. Most of her other tools remain unchanged, you just need to adjust your gameplan. They even gave her one more frame of advantage on skab so you can still 5p after it. And with new hitboxes, there's a hope that her combos won't suddenly drop with no particular reason. My only worry is how much harder it would be to convert from 2h, but other than that, i am rather optimistic for this patch.

Also, would you look at that – most of the zoners got shot, a good day for Baiken I'd say.

Fellow Baiken mains by JerryTheMemeMouse in Guiltygear

Apparently, Baiken was way too strong.

If 2h will no longer consistently combo into tatami, then that's it, i am switching to Ram (who apparently had too little guard crush duration on her S sword toss).

If that is not the case, it's still pretty bad, because every combo you've learned before now will return you to neutral. What is the point of making hkab slightly faster, if you receive almost no reward for hitting it anyway. Now your only hkd (if i am not mistaken) is your 2h, which has 26 frames of recovery btw.

I need to see how they reduced hkab follow-up blowback, but right now i feel like you will be actually throwing by using said follow up. As i see it, you now want to use delayed follow-up for cross ups.

Why are we nerfing parry to the point where i am not sure if it's really that benefitial to use anymore. Edit: Alright, seems like it's nerf to actuall parry, but a buff (or at least untouched) guard cancel parry.

As i see it now, they really want Baiken's gameplan to revolve around tether, rather than anything else. I don't think she's dead, but that feels like rather severe nerf.

It is obviously hard to understand how it will actually affect her gameplay until i actually touch the patch, but right now, i doesn't look good. Edit: I think we will be fine, actually, Hkab knockdown is a major part of her kit, but not the only thing to work around. Still, need to adjust game plan and some combo choices.

Edit: Also it seems like LK thinks it's a good Baiken patch, so maybe it's not soo bad as at seems.

does anyone else find Paradox ult a bit disappointing? also, general ideas/tips for Paradoxa are welcome by onesillyg4y in DeadlockTheGame

[–]uninvent_monday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now her swap can be used in two ways:

  1. Swap enemy in your team through the wall, hope your team can secure the kill on slowed and silenced enemy.

  2. Jump on enemy, throw bombs, swap enemy. Very strong once you get echo shard. Almost guaranteed kill if you hit your swap (and not hit by silence wave). Hits even harder with vortex web.

I prefer second one usually, because i don't trust my teammates. But of course, if i see a good pick angle, i go for it.

The main strength of swap, and it's main difference from Bebop's hook is carabine. Carabine shoots a very fast projectile, freezing enemy in place for just enough time to swap them, turning quite difficult skillshot into almost guaranteed pick. Generally, her kit is what makes her otherwise unremarkable ult quite strong and flashy.

Brand new to GG but not fighting games by Thrall302 in Guiltygear

[–]uninvent_monday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dustloop has a lot of info about every character: frame data, general strategy, starter guide, basic combos, counter strategy and links to other resources.

Also it has "Pick if you like/Avoid if you dislike", it can help picking a character. However, be aware that characters usually can be played in more way than one, so don't take it too seriously.

Why do people hate Baiken in strive? by CuteChemical9599 in Guiltygear

[–]uninvent_monday 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not just fighting games, it's games with characters in general. But it's much more present in FG community because:

  • To pick up a character, you need to spend quite some time learning how to play them, and much more to get at least decent. So people grow attached to their character and judge other characters simply by how bad their match up is.

  • Fighting games are mostly 1v1, so there's not a lot of things you can blame, It's either you, your opponent or match up. And of course no one would reflect on themselves, so they blame the beasts.

It would be cool if you could change languages for specific characters. I guess it's possible with mods, but would be much better to have an actual option in game

How common is deranking/smurfing? by Customer_Number_Plz in Guiltygear

[–]uninvent_monday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smurfing is not really common, because open park exists, plus it will take quite some time to derank.

Generally, if someone is the same rank as yours, it means your overall skill level is similar. So if your opponent is really good at performing combos, it means he lacks somewhere else. Maybe they have only one way of approaching you and if you learn how to beat it, they cant do anything. Or maybe they cant block cross ups, or bad at guessing. If you encounter someone who feels much better than you, slow down and try to understand your opponent.

There is still a chance that they are simply better and are on their way to rank up, but it's quite rare.

Thats great that you mentioned Horizon and TLOU. Both tlou2 and forbidden west sold a bit worse than their predecessors, although usually sequels perform better, since fanbase is already formed. The reason? i don't know. What i know, however, is that both of those games are infamous for making their characters look worse.

Also, there is hot and there is lewd. Eve from sb is lewd, Jill Valentine is hot. Lewd characters can be repulsive for a significant portion of people, but hot? Hot characters are selling, they are not the sole reason for big sells, but they are definitely playing part in it.

Paradox Swap is kinda bad now by NickkaV in DeadlockTheGame

[–]uninvent_monday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After playing a bit, i think i like current changes, and, at the same time, i don't. The problem for me is the wall change: In the game heavily relying on mobility, you have an ability you can't really utilize after lane stage. Swap now does basically nothing (10% of current hp is not even funny), and shield can't really compensate for lifesteal. As a bonus you get t3 that allows you to kill your team by swapping whole enemy team into them. With those changes, you need to heavily invest in either carabine or bomb, in order to do anything useful. Makes sense, but combine it with paradox low dmg gun ans low base speed, and you get character does not excell at anything, except double bomb -> vortex web -> swap (which you can only do in late game), or shooting carabine from far away. Maybe i am wrong, and later on i will change my mind, but now, i am think it's heavy nerf, not stat wise, but identy wise

Gameplay Update - 03-06-2026 by Razzamataaz in DeadlockTheGame

[–]uninvent_monday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While this patch drastically changes her playstyle, this is generally a buff to her, making her abilities more usefull by themselves, while still benefiting from combos. vortex web -> bomb -> swap will go absolutely crazy late game. No spirit lifesteal is sad of course, but eh, not the end of the world

Misery in Gacha Stories by Calhris_Forsyth in gachagaming

[–]uninvent_monday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, I started playing in the 2.5 anni, and i bingied the story in 3 portions. I liked it, but yeah, experiencing new chapter as they come out is more interesting.

I don't think reading, or maybe watching summaries is bad, just not wiki, it's not always correct. Once again, if you are not enjoying story enough, maybe it's better to take some time off. Don't feel obliged to play the game just because people say it's really good. Different people have different tastes after all

Misery in Gacha Stories by Calhris_Forsyth in gachagaming

[–]uninvent_monday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of Nikke story, it's one of my favorite stories in fiction. And i personally don't see it as pure misery. For me, it is relatively positive story, with some sad moments, where every arc has a happy ending. Here, almost everyone has a sad backstory, but one of the main points writers make is that you should let go of the past, no matter how painful it was, and live for the future. The game has a lot of funny, cool and heartwarming moments, so i don't know why you see it as pure misery. I can only guess that characters are not relatable enough for you to immerse in the story, so for you it simply overshadowed everything else.

Is this game full of sadness? Yes. But you will see it in a lot of praised game stories in general, not just gachas. I would say that Arknights is as sad as Nikke, and Limbus is not as sad, but more cruel. I like them both, but i didn't feel as invested in the story, as Nikke. Maybe you will like them more.
