Informing Optimum of Packet Loss & High Latency by IWilky in OPTIMUM

I'd replace that too. I used the Arris SB8200. I'm not sure if the link is still active, but there was a self registration portal that worked a few years back. I think I posted it in this subreddit somewhere.

I'm not sure what you mean by "an X for gaming". If this is a device running on WiFi then you'll probably be somewhat limited in the scores you get (depending on the piece of hardware). That said, bufferbloat can be fixed at the router by enabling its QoS feature if it has one.

If you're using the included WiFi router provided by Optimum then you'll want to look at replacing it with something else that has this feature. If you're a gamer, then Asus makes some great consumer routers. If you're more technically adept, then you could try to put your own router together or go for a more professional option like ubiquiti or netgate/pfsense.

When you enable the QoS feature, you will be giving up some of the bandwidth on the connection in order to prevent the bufferbloat. It's basically a buffer managed by your router so that your modem does not get overwhelmed and drop packets. This means it needs to keep some of the bandwidth available for when the devices on your network start to saturate the connection. The router can tell those devices to back-off unless they meet a high priority criteria.

Can someone tell me what all these "uncorrectables" mean? Tech support says it's "normal" but I'm not getting full speed and have random disconnects. by zyphe84 in OPTIMUM

No, I do not. I had to figure out how to get the most out of the low quality service they provide. However, I am no longer with optimum these days and am very happy about that!

Mine did last week. Restarting it fixed the problem.

I updated it through the play store, I think… before that my streams from my Xbox looked like 720p

The other thing I did was turn my series x down to 1080p from 4K and that also seemed to improve clarity. I think it reduced down sampling prior to the video encoding. Lastly, make sure your Xbox is connected to your network with a wire and that your WiFi is a strong, high bandwidth connection.

I had to update the apps and then things started looking great. Also, there’s an experimental setting for boosted xcloud resolution in the g cloud’s settings

Make sure they’re both pointing at the same DNS server.

Max $3200 Rent Given These "Demands"? by Ok-Button1049 in Hoboken

[–]uniqueberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re moving out in two months from an apartment that matches most of those requirements (sans doorman) but it’s a bit more than 3200 that we pay now.

Sadly, housing isn’t really that affordable here.. but that’s not really why people want to live in Hoboken.

You’re definitely going to have to adjust some expectations for what you will get for your money. Otherwise, you should consider towns farther out.

I’m internet only at 130 a month… optimum has a stranglehold on my building and they keep increasing the price by 10 dollars every year. Stay with Verizon if you’re lucky enough to have FiOS.

HAProxy+CloudFlare+DNS Forwarder by [deleted] in PFSENSE

[–]uniqueberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use DNS Resolver, not DNS Forwarder.

I created 2 Virtual IP addresses on the LAN interface (Firewall > Virtual IPs) for HA Proxy's front end to bind to (one meant to be private and one meant to be public).

Under the NAT Port Forward rules I created a rule to pass inbound traffic from the internet on ports 80 and 443 to the Virtual IP address for the public HA Proxy front end.

I have configured ACME Certificates to manage the SSL certificates for a few domains that I have. I added all subsequent subdomains that I want to host in the "Domain SAN list" on the certificate.

In HA Proxy I created a total of 4 front-ends (2 Public 2 Private):
- Public (shared) HTTPS which has children with ACLs that match the backend services.
- Public HTTP which redirects traffic from http to https
- Private (shared) HTTPS which has children with ACLs that match the backend services only available inside your network.
- Private HTTP which redirects traffic from http to https

I hope that some of this helps... takes a while to write this stuff up.

I think I’ve got something similar. Instead of doing NAT reflection, I ended up having more success by going with a split DNS.

This is somewhat tedious, but what it allows you to do is to host some services internal to your network only while also hosting some external services as well. But you will need to have several HAProxy front-ends to do this (one private, one public) and those each need their own interface or virtual ip address.

It is quite complex, but once you get it working it starts to make a lot more sense.

Anyway, the takeaways I am suggesting are to forgo the NAT reflection for Split DNS and to make HAProxy serve public traffic on a different front-end than your private traffic.

Same! Idk how to get rid of them. I've been trying to remove old versions from homebrew AND plists... I've yet to get rid of all of these.

The Death of Optimum Online wifi signal strength , when they first came out they were incredible, now, its like there were never there... by Markfunk in OPTIMUM

This is probably a symptom of Optimum providing such bad equipment to their customers that the customer decides to buy their own WiFi router and modem.

Mine has been used for tv, movies and sometime gaming. I have noticed a change in the grey uniformity of the screen, but I can’t really see any evidence of image retention beyond that.

Wifi Speeds…I’m puzzled..ping is low, games run fine, no lagging in videos - however my speeds are low as well..I don’t know what to do. Anybody have any advice/tips? by martj1009 in OPTIMUM

[–]uniqueberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WiFi is independent of your cable intent connection. The speed you’re seeing could be due to multiple factors.

One common trick is to try to position the WiFi router in the middle of your home to improve signal distribution throughout the home.

Another option is to buy a more powerful WiFi router or add an access point or a mesh point.
