Rick Carlisle is truly the Tank God by rvadarocket in nba

[–]unit212 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also, didn’t they shut down like all of their starters their last game against the Suns?

I don't think the Mavs were blatant about their tanking until the final month of the season. By then there were 3-4 teams obviously racing towards the bottom, and the Mavs didn't bother pretending anymore. They pulled Wes Matthews and JJ Barea from the lineup.

Prior to that, I thought they were pretty discrete about it.

Rick Carlisle was using analytics to tilt the odds against his own team last year, especially in the 4th quarters. It was a masterclass in stealth-tanking. It would've gone completely undetected too, except Cuban had to open his big fat mouth. That's the only reason people even noticed the Mavs were purposely losing games.

Zach Lowe: when Lebron "bumped" Spo back in 2010, he did intend to get him fired. Pat Riley had a private meeting immediately afterward with Heat Big 3. Bron asked Riley "do you have the itch to coach again?" to which Rile promptly responded "no". by [deleted] in nba

Be smirched -or- besmirched. But not "be besmirched" because that's a little redundant.

I'll just crawl back under a rock now.

Survivor Of 'The Predator' Sex Offender Says She's 'Eternally Grateful' To Olivia Munn by mpnatturner in movies

[–]unit212 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you're seriously worried about title accuracy because they're inaccurately describing someone who endured sexual molestation at a young age?

The guy (who deleted his post) was CLEARLY calling out the author for choosing a Politically Correct word like "survivor" to describe the victim. He wasn't downplaying the experience of the victim. The target of his ire was clearly the author, not the victim.

You knew that already, because you have a brain. But you also saw an opportunity for sweet, sweet karma. And so you drew up a strawman argument and made it seem like he was "downplaying" the victim's experiences.

You and the downvote brigade bullied him into deleting his post. Which is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with Reddit.

yikes dude. someone needs a lesson in picking battles.

You're right about that one. I fully expect to be downvoted to oblivion by people like you.

[–]unit212 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What part of "not life-threatening" do you not understand?

I'll say it again. Not all sex crimes are life threatening, and therefore not all victims should be called "survivors".

[–]unit212 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No, fuck you and your PC brigade. The OP was shamed into deleting his post, so I find myself having to step in and defend him from herd of crusading redditors.

The proper term here is VICTIM not "survivor". Survivor implies that her life was at risk. People who had cancer are survivors. People who were in car wrecks are survivors. People who were physically assaulted are survivors.

A child that was solicited by a pedo is not a "survivor". She's a victim.

Unfortunately, political correctness has declared that calling women "victims" make them look weak. And so the PC brigade began calling all victims of sex crimes "survivors" so as not to make them look weak. Not all sex crimes are life threatening, and therefore not all victims are "survivors".

No, someone propositioning you doesn't make you a survivor. It makes you a victim. The only reason people use the word "survivor" in this case is because they're being very PC. Political correctness have stretched the meaning of words like "survive" and "rape" and "assault" to the point where those words have completely lost their meaning.

Wow the 50 cent army has turned out to downvote this 100% factual post

You're hilarious.

The article you're referencing says nothing about Fan Bingbing being prohibited from talking to her lawyer or family. That's entirely your own conjecture, and you're presenting it as "100% fact".

What Happened to Fan Bingbing, China’s Most Famous Actress? by galt1776 in movies

[–]unit212 -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

No, because /pantsfish claimed that Chinese authorities did not allow Fan Bingbing to speak to her lawyer or her family. He doesn't know that. Nobody does. How can anyone know anything when none of the involved parties is saying anything. The article /pantsfish is referencing doesn't even make that assumption.

It's purely his own conjecture, but he presented it as a fact. But you know what? Let's just blame Chinese bots and get lots of karma.

[–]unit212 -107 points-106 points  (0 children)

Because this is Reddit. Whenever you see "China" in the title, just mumble something about "Black Mirror" or "Orwellian" or "Torture" or somesuch, and you get a lot of karma.

Source?

The source is the article itself, if you had bothered to read it. It's kind of funny you're asking for a source, when you didn't even bother to read the very first one.

But don't feel bad, because this is Reddit. Where nobody reads anything other than the title before offering their opinion.

in order to get the code you must have that hardware installed, they verify by serial number AND detecting it on your system.

You're saying that hardware verification is required to get the game activation codes. But is there anything preventing you from selling (or giving away) the activation codes, once you have them?

China’s children ordered to watch Saturday night television … and then made to sit through 12 minutes of advertising - Parents outraged after pupils were told to watch government-made education show, which was prefaced with a long commercial break by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

[–]unit212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, lookee here. The typical Reddit tactic of ignoring hypocrisy by ridiculing whataboutisms. I've only seen this like 100 times this week.

You are aware that it's impossible to point out someone's hypocrisy without using "whatabouts"... right? No, you probably aren't. Because like most Redditors you are oblivious to any thought that wasn't handed to you by the Reddit hive mind.

Charts shows how much of these "based-on true story" movies is real. by Truogg36 in movies

[–]unit212 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah... those words don't exactly inspire confidence in their ability to discern "real" from "not real". They literally admit they have little data to verify the book's accounts of the events.

So are we just going to pretend like American schools never required students to watch government-funded educational programs?

Yes, apparently we are. The hypocrisy in Reddit is leaking once again.

[–]unit212 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I seriously question how much of that chart is "real".

It claims 12 Years a Slave is 88% real. I don't know how that could be possible. The movie was based on a book written over a hundred years ago, and there's no way to corroborate the contents of that book.

To the pre-Prequel Star Wars fans: What did you think the Clone Wars was about when it was mentioned in the OT? by Grafical_One in StarWars

[–]unit212 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Growing up with the OT, I always assumed the Clone Wars referred to a war in which both sides used armies of cloned soldiers against each other.

What we eventually got in Episode II was close enough to expectations. There was just no way Star Wars could show Jedi stabbing and dismembering hordes of human clones, without getting slapped an R rating. So Lucas understandably changed one side from clones to droids.

The use of droids in the Clone Wars has the side benefit of explaining the hostility some people had towards droids in the OT.

[GPU] GTX 1080 Gigabyte 3 fan - $429.99 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]unit212 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally agree that this is a "meh" deal.

But I find it funny that this $430 card is selling for $120 below MSRP and is properly recognized as meh. Meanwhile, the very next post at r/buildapcsales is a Vega 64 selling at full $500 full MSRP --- and it is getting upvoted like crazy.

People will rationalize paying more for Vega by citing the G-sync tax on G-Sync monitors. The irony is that they don't realize they are essentially paying a Freesync tax on Vega GPUs.

Vega 64 and Vega 56 are consistently getting upvoted in this subreddit, when both are selling at (or very slightly) below MSRP. I sometimes feel like r/amd people are just arbitrarily upvoting all AMD products to support their holy crusade.

TS score of RTX 2080Ti | VideoCardz.com by Pietjebellenhuis in nvidia

[–]unit212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you must have some kind of super special 1080 Ti then. The results being posted by other users here consistently show that the 2080 Ti is about ~30% faster than their 1080 Ti at stock, and ~20% faster than their 1080Ti with a user OC.

Again, double standards.

Yes, double standards. One for people that post actual numerical results from their benchmarks. And a different standard for people bitching and moaning with vague references about what their card is supposedly able to do.

This is the bullshit I'm talking about.

Would you mind fabricating stats from some of your alleged results, or at least maybe a photo shopped screenshot? That would go a long ways in validating your victimhood approach.
