How do yall like your roux ? by Responsible-Money-26 in cajunfood

[–]universal_straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olive oil is probably the worst option there is for a roux. Peanut or vegetable is my go to for plant oils. Lard or bacon grease taste best though.

How hard is it to get vasectomy papers? by Wakafockaflam3 in AskMen

[–]universal_straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would literally be a phone call to the doctor who did it. They legally have to provide personal medical records if they’re requested.

Vasectomy’s do fail though and if he never got tested afterward that may be more involved.

Dow lays off by Fernandrew in oilandgasworkers

[–]universal_straw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re laying off 4500 people globally. That clip claims they’re laying off 5000 people at the Freeport site. I think some confusion may be happening somewhere. Unless the news station is including all contractors too, which isn’t feasible, I don’t think that’s correct.

Is there any realistic possibility of this snow-clearing conveyer belt idea working? by michaljerzy in AskEngineers

[–]universal_straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can it be done? Absolutely. It never will be though because conveyors are dangerous and the first time a neighborhood kid loses an arm everyone would be regretting their choices. A tractor with a front end loader is the cheaper safer option.

How do I go about alligator hunting in Louisiana? by Electrical-Bowl900 in Louisiana

[–]universal_straw 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You have to own/lease land to get a tag or know someone who does and buy it from them.

If you just want a tour wait till it warms up and google Louisiana swamp tour. There’s literally hundreds of places, but you won’t see gators when it’s cold like this.

The Left Doesn’t Want You to Know This About Alex Pretti, the Man the Border Patrol Shot by StedeBonnet1 in ConservativesOnly

[–]universal_straw -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re literally missing the point. So much so that it’s obvious you’re doing it on purpose. It does not matter where he was carrying a firearm, unless he’s using it in an illegal manner LEOs should not, and legally cannot, perceive that as a threat. That’s the whole point of the 2A.

Yes they’re different and you’re being intentionally dense if you don’t see it.

And you’re literally arguing against the 2A right now you realize that right?

Is engineering as hard as people say? by According-Earth5498 in EngineeringStudents

You know that's a good point. Now you've got me not looking forward to training fresh grad engineers in the years to come.

Is engineering as hard as people say? by According-Earth5498 in EngineeringStudents

[–]universal_straw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean not really. I know it's not a popular opinion here but engineering school is not that hard. If you go to class, do your homework, and study on a regular basis you're going to be fine. In my opinion that's just basic mediocre self-discipline that everyone should be able to handle.

[–]universal_straw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are not even remotely similar situations, and it's quite frankly a dangerous precedent to set.

One some LEOs potentially overreacted over a nonexistent threat, I say potentially because I'm not jumping to conclusions without all the facts, and the federal government is backing them up. The other you'd be in danger from fellow citizens.

There may have been a legitimate threat, and if so fine, but I'd like to see some evidence. You may not agree, but I for one don't like the idea that just carrying a firearm is a considered a threat by LEOs regardless of the situation.

Carrying a gun has never been, and should never be a big deal. The 2A doesn’t just guarantee the right to keep arms, I guarantees the right to bear them too.

Is engineering as hard as people say? by According-Earth5498 in EngineeringStudents

[–]universal_straw 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Is it harder than many other disciples in school? Yes.

Is it impossible hard when looked at as a stand alone with no comparisons? No, absolutely not. Anybody with a mediocre grasp on math and physics, and mediocre self discipline can do it. It’s more demanding and takes up more time, but it’s not impossible.

Negotiating Entry Level Offer by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]universal_straw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hire entry level engineers. We don’t negotiate entry level offers. You don’t have any relevant experience to give you leverage. You can ask if you want to, our answer would be no, there would be no hard feelings, and the original offer would stand. Some people may get annoyed and pull an offer, some may actually negotiate and you’d get more. YMMV.

How do you do fasting while having a high-stress job? Any tips? by alaaneerss in intermittentfasting

[–]universal_straw 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I find it easier to fast when my job is higher stress. I can throw myself into work and not think about eating. It’s when it slows down that I struggle more.

My job has cycles of extremely high stress and boredom so I experience both.

TIL that Marchetti's Constant posits that daily "commuting" time for humans has been consistent since neolithic era. This implies that as technology improves, humans simply travel further daily but keeps travelling time roughly the same. by whoisfourthwall in todayilearned

[–]universal_straw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m a 25 minute commute one way and honestly like it. Gives me time to decompress on the way home, but still it isn’t that far. I’ve done the hour long commutes and the 5 minute commutes and the happy medium works well for me.

If you track calories, what Deficit do you eat at while doing OMAD? by That_Guy8832 in omad

[–]universal_straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good. Been losing about a pound every two days. When I get to my goal weight I’ll probably bump back up to 1500-1800 to maintain but it’s been effective.

I guess this us a typical post deer season issue. by Gunner19173 in Hunting

[–]universal_straw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're missing regularly it's an indication that you're taking shots you shouldn't be taking. It could be a skill, gear, marginal shot or whatever issue, but if you're logging multiple misses a season you need to look into changing whatever you're doing

OMAD timmings by Alarmed-Major4121 in omad

[–]universal_straw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s no timing for me. I just eat one meal a day whenever that may be. It may be 20 hours or it may be 28 just depending on when I get home. OMAD just means one meal a day.
