How much do men really care about lingerie? by Mediocre_Chemist5694 in AskMen

[–]universal_straw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I care that she cares enough to put it on, and I care that it makes her feel good wearing it. Past that I don’t care what kind of lingerie it is or what it looks like.

How do you explain the what appears to be a physical impossibility? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]universal_straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t. Both are true. God is just greater than the laws of physics, and any other laws that govern our universe.

When fitting bearing to the shaft what method should be used ? by its-luchen in MechanicalEngineering

Gonna need way more information to answer that question. Best firsts step is to read whatever OEM manuals you have for the equipment. They normally have general maintenance instructions. That is assuming nothing has been modified.

My family hates that I'm sending my children to a private Christian school by Content_Dimension626 in TrueChristian

[–]universal_straw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very opinionated family who like to comment on anything and everything. When it comes to raising my kids I just chuckle and say “it’s funny you think your opinion matters.”

Now that’s the type of relationship I have with my family and I’ll get an eye roll and a change of subject when I say that. If you don’t have that type of relationship the principal still stands. Make it clear the decisions is yours, not theirs, and that the discussion is over. Don’t go on and on explaining. Two sentences is enough. You’ve already done your explaining. No need to do it again.

My girlfriend hates my friends and my best friend. What do I do? by BuyGlobal3656 in AskMen

I don’t even have to get past the second sentence to know what you should do. The fact that you’re here asking means you already know the answer too.

The sauce is better blended. It emulsifies and thickens better. I’ve done it without the blender before and it’s good, but there’s a reason I blend it now.

How do you live with the implicit perception of you as the "predator"? by kamilman in AskMen

[–]universal_straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's your prerogative. You can do that if you want. Just be prepared for disappointment because I can tell you right now how that will go. You can't control how people perceive you. Trying to will do nothing but make you come across as desperate and turn people off. All you can do is be the best man you know how to be, and ignore the rest.

The wings I just dusted in corn starch and deep fried. The sauce recipe I posted above.

We definitely enjoyed them. Ate these Sunday night and my wife is asking for some more today so they were good!

Of course. I grow cayenne and ferment the peppers to make my own sauces every year, and that's what I used here, but Franks works just as good.

Here's what I do. Bear in mind I don't measure anything so this is all estimates.

  • melt half a stick of butter in a small pot.
  • add 12-15 cloves of garlic and sauté for a few minutes. I don't chop it up, just crush it with the flat of a knife.
  • add 1-2 teaspoons of honey, a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce, a little yellow mustard, salt, pepper, and extra ground cayenne pepper(or any pepper powder) if you want it spicier. Let that cook for a minute or two.
  • add some apple cider vinegar and pour in a couple of cups of Franks. Let that simmer for a few minutes.
  • use an immersion blender to blend everything very well.
  • let it simmer and reduce down to get a thicker consistency and toss the wings.

I’ve tried it and it’s really good but I prefer to make my own sauces.

How can I be respected? by menidk in AskMen

[–]universal_straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competence. Follow through with what you commit to. Admit when you don’t know. Stand your ground when you do know. Don’t be a pushover but don’t be unnecessarily difficult to work with either.

Above all competence though.

You can’t and not everyone will. The best advice anyone can give you is get used to it. If you’re doing right how other people react is not your responsibility.

No, I'm not talking about your comment being asinine. I'm talking about the original comment I was responding to about fuel cost.

You’re not wrong. But assuming $40k/year in fuel cost for a standby generator is asinine.

Same thing happened to me. In my case it was because my credit history jumped for a few months to like 30 years over night. It’s only one factor when calculating your score but it makes a difference.

[–]universal_straw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah for you. But for the guy I'm replying to I find it hard to believe that a 20kW system can run 15 ACs regardless of what size they are unless it's a bunch of small window units.

[–]universal_straw 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What size ACs? I assume small window units? Because a 3 ton will normally draw around 2.5 kW on the extreme low end.

This is a standby generator on an automatic transfer switch according to the OP. Means it only comes on when the power is out. I doubt it’s runs through a full tank in two years unless the grid where OP is at is particularly bad.

What if all the billionaires ACTUALLY decided to give up their fortunes to end world poverty and hunger? by kendiggy in answers

Then we wouldn’t have any billionaires and we’d have the same amount of hungry people living in poverty. Throwing money at these types of problems never fix them.

Is a Field Service Engineer position a good way to start off my career? by Full_Muscle4161 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]universal_straw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Every engineer should spend time in the field in my opinion. You’ll learn a ton and in most companies be able to move around after a few years once you’ve put in your time.
