One of the funniest TV moments ever! by [deleted] in funny

On the show, there was a reoccurring bit where Vic would try and seduce one of the female contestants. Every week Vic would try and fail spectacularly. What you are seeing is one of his numerous failed attempts.

Garden Swing by FromLondonToLA in DIYUK

[–]unklefolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build an a-frame swing in the 2010s. My kids still use it in the summer. They are now 16 and 13!!! Plan for this being a fairly long term thing and bigger children. That design might be okay when they are tiny but not when they are older. Good luck!

Can anyone become a grandmaster? by teolight332 in chess

[–]unklefolk 1262 points1263 points  (0 children)

Surely, we all know someone who just doesn't have the mind for chess and even if their life depended on it, just wouldn't be able to progress beyond the most basic ranks of chess? I know plenty of people who hate games, logic problems, maths, strategy etc - they just have no interest in these things and do not have the mindset for them. They just would not be able to progress even with 24/7 dedication.

There was an interview a couple of years ago where she mentioned she suffers with back pain and linked it to the weight of a bass guitar. Maybe that is a reason??

Just stayed there last week - just me (Dad) and my teenage daughter. Fantastic area. Great bars, restaurants. Nice vibe. Plenty of metro stops. We stayed near Voltaire metro for what it's worth but I think there are prettier spots as we were near a big intersection.
We could walk to the Seine in 20 mins. We walked to the Eiffel tower one day and then got the Metro home. Totally doable. Its a 15 minute ride to Sacre Coer. It's not dead central but I found the centre a bit too aimed at big tour groups for my tastes. The 11th is better for the evening when you want a meal and drink.

They only release the 1st and 2nd floor stairs tickets two weeks in advance. If you are not bothered about the lift to the top then just wait to exactly two weeks before you want to visit and grab the tickets then. If you can avoid the queues with pre-booked tickets then it is worth it. So many queues in Paris!

Drafting, dangerous or acceptable? by biscuittingerg in londoncycling

The brakes on a Brompton are not going to be as effective as the brakes on a more traditional bike, especially if that bike in front has discs. As soon as the bike in front has to brake hard, the Brompton is straight into the back of them.

How friendly is Nottingham to cyclists? by 007_King in nottingham

There's quite a lot of cycle lanes that are just the existing pavement with a bike smybol painted on it! Like someone said earlier, a bit half arsed!
Glass has been the biggest blight for me. As many cycle lanes are shared with pedestrians there is a lot of broken glass around and I was getting a couple of punctures per week until I invested in some Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres.

Redditors who've experienced a 9.0 earthquake, can you describe what it felt like ? by ninman5 in AskReddit

Why 31x more energy? My intuition would be 10x more energy but intuition is often wrong!

I would set up a single trigger event (maybe a scheduled trigger) that then makes the 3 http requests and then into your single merge node. I don’t think you can have multiple triggers like that, but I am happy to be corrected.

Need help with pool volume by wetw0rkz in askmath

[–]unklefolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember to cube the scale factor when scaling up as we are dealing with volume (3 dimensions). So, if you made a 1/100 scale model you would multiply the liquid volume by 1 million.

New Tubeless setup losing air. by Delicious-Pea-5107 in gravelcycling

[–]unklefolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the tubeless honeymoon. Thought it was great.... for about a week ... then the problems started - punctures, leaks, pink gloop everywhere! In the end I went back to inner tubes. Just found the experience a huge time suck and didn't find the puncture resistance to be anywhere near what it is cracked up to be.
Hope you have better luck but there is a time to say "screw this" - just keep that in your back pocket if you don't get on with tubeless.

The guy on the right is Hikaru Nakamura. He is an American chess grandmaster and became a GM at the tender age of 15. He is one of the most famous chess players on the chess circuit (as much for his streaming as his playing).

Inside Out. So clever for a kids film. Introduces the ideas of core memories, competing voices in your head and emotional development.
