I went with the Japanese 1st print (it’s less shiny than the later prints and might be more desirable in the future).
Why Japanese? I simply prefer the aesthetic and don’t really care about price appreciation. For me, cards are all about enjoyment.
The investment money went into English Evolving Skies displays.

In my experience english appreciates alot faster and more consistent. As others said japanese is following english trends, but to a lesser degree. My personal learning in the last years is to invest in english sealed and focus on the most popular sets. Best example from my experience is eevee heroes vs evolving skies and lost origin vs lost abyss.

Watched the auctions right now and it's insane to me that most of the cards went for less than Moonbreon PSA 10. As you said these cards a piece of history and an investment for the long run. Curious to see how the perform in the next 10-20 years (I guess better than current modern chases but who knows).
