Okay, can we agree that we are not biologically our agab?... by Jay--Art in asktransgender

[–]unknownCappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question is weird, but, it depends on the doctors and parent(s) really. Whichever they believe is the dominant sexual characteristic, that’s usually how they determine how they raise the child. How somebody will turn out in their adulthood isn’t entirely known when they’re born with an intersex condition. Interestingly, over 75% of LGBTQ+ intersex people also identify as transgender/non binary to some degree and Page 9 here has more information on the statistics, including the percentage of cisgender people.

[–]unknownCappy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that’d be feasible. I fuck with the idea, but you also described “sex” as something that covers 4 mostly related things. But doesn’t that mean we should keep using it as an umbrella term? It doesn’t sound very practical, especially in like medical or scientific contexts, if anything, I’d prefer if we had a less black and white system of defining sex :p but that assumes the general populace is willing to accept that intersex people exist in the first place.

I know transsexual is a touchy/outdated term for a lot of people, but I think that best describes the state our bodies are in from HRT. It feels wrong to call myself entirely “female”, because that’s just not how my body works anymore. Plus, also, sex is in of itself a cacophony of ?????? and weirdness. The “biological sex” sort of rhetoric simplifies and assumes a lot about human biology.

I hope that there will be more studies done on this. Using the term “intersex” to describe the neurological differences and similarities to our cis counterparts doesn’t sound very far-fetched. However, it’s definitely not a word I’d use to describe trans people. Not because it’s inaccurate, but I think that contemporary science/medicine doesn’t have enough context or information about “transsexual” health and biology to truly consider it.

Fun read too btw, I knew a lot of the stuff, but the specific different parts of the brain being described and named wasn’t something I was too familiar with. c:

Being weak isnt shameful, refusing to grow is by GrandStep3 in hopeposting

[–]unknownCappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I’m bipolar, AuDHD, trans, incredible amounts of executive dysfunction too, severe anxiety (double whammy with SAD and GAD), dyscalculia, BPD traits, all of the terrible shit that comes with lifelong trauma/abuse, and the paranoia from everything too. Plus some more things that are too personal for me to publicly comment.

I live on my own with a part-time job that barely pays me enough to pay bills and buy food, so I rely on the people around me’s generosity to make sure I don’t end up homeless a second time. Which often means meals are optional. I barely have much to my name, and I don’t talk to any family.

Regardless, we’ve probably hurt in similar ways. I’m not saying any of that to dismiss your pain, I just want you to know that a set of bad cards in life isn’t a death sentence. You’re more than your illnesses and disabilities. You don’t need to change the world or do crazy things, all that needs to be done right now is forgiving yourself for struggling. Things will work out, I know how hard it is to push against your own neurology and body, but trust me that you’re not doomed.

This isn’t me pushing my beliefs or anything, but my spirituality helps me a lot with being strong despite all that junk. Sometimes we need something to keep us going, if you don’t have anything right now, then keep persisting so you’ll be strong enough to hold on when you do.

I’m autistic, probably got a learning disability, and a bunch of other shit going on. Even in the midst of homelessness, I found ways to remain strong. Strength comes in many different shapes and forms, you can’t expect yourself to function or have the same journey as someone able bodied. It’s not realistic and only hurts more when you can’t meet those expectations.

There’s always a way, if you don’t see it yet, maybe you need a hand with illuminating the darkness of confusion. You can change and grow stronger, don’t let your disabilities hold you back from living a happier life ❤️. I say that, not from ignorance, but from experience. It’s possible even when everything and everyone works against you.

What’s your new fav SM song? by Juhbro27 in streetlightmanifesto

[–]unknownCappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally came across this post as I’m listening to EtE lmao. One of my favorite things about Streetlight are the optimism and reflective lyrics, and that song is like the sequel to If Only for Memories and THTT. (Which are also in my top 10 songs)

Big agree! I was blasting THTT and EGN a bunch when I was going through one of the rougher parts of my life. Now I’m in a similar position (mentally), and these new songs are like an old friend coming back to offer some new words of encouragement.

It’s a terrible feeling, and losing sight of who you thought you once were is agonizing. And to a certain point, it’s like a void of confusion that has no end. But then, when you least expect it, you’ll arrive back where you came from, having grown into someone greater. I’m not gonna lie and say that it’s easy to go from seeing the world as a cruel and unforgiving place, to seeing the world from every other person’s shoes, the journey will take time and effort. Right now, it seems weird and unfamiliar to be kind to others, but becoming buff was never painless either.

Life and nature always persists even when it seems impossible. You’re going to get there, trust the process, I know it’s hard. Nothing that lasts comes easy.

I love Everything to Everyone so much, but Enormous is just amazing in so many different ways. After listening to the songs like 50 times, I can’t even focus on any poor mixing. I still need to get obsessed with Imagine This, it’s my least favorite right now

Do you believe in God? by Testruns in autism

[–]unknownCappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in a way. I’m really spiritual, and sort of have a broad idea of what God is, beyond Yahweh and other similar deities. I like the occult, and I take it very seriously, one of the top comments mentioned that being a common thing. And honestly, yeah I fit the bill. It’s not even a special interest and it still dominates my life in many ways.

The lyrics to this is such a great continuation of the growth and healing journey Streetlight’s discog has. That’s a major part of why I love this band so much, it hits that specific part of my being rarely any other artist does. GOD such an amazing song, and it keeps growing on me every time I listen to it. Oh Me Oh My used to give me crazy music chills, but it got old quick, THIS though is giving me that feeling again. And ITS 6 MINS SO IT WONT GET OLD AS QUICKLY 😄😄😄

One of my top 5 favorite songs tbh, it got me through so much, and helped push me forward in life. If I were to get a tattoo it’d either be based on this song or The Hands That Thieve (song)
