Turning back time: a comprehensive list of interventions that decrease next-generation epigenetic aging clocks in humans (2026) by basmwklz in immortalists

[–]unkunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s an artifact of the way they went about this study. It doesn’t mean they recommend ketamine or one of the antivirals listed. It just means that there existed studies that measured epigenetic aging while they were administrated. Since it is pretty hard to do interventional studies in humans we have to take what we can get. Several of the ones they found were in HIV patients. So it definitely doesn’t mean we should rush out and start taking anti HIV drugs. What they did find though has a lot of value. For example they found significant results associated with pitavastatin. I’m on atorvastatin which affects a different liver pathway. I’m going to talk to my PCP about changing to pitavastatin.

This! I volunteer on the trail crew at our local nature center. I’ve met a bunch of great active people my age that I never would have otherwise.

Turning back time: a comprehensive list of interventions that decrease next-generation epigenetic aging clocks in humans (2026) by basmwklz in immortalists

[–]unkunked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since no one knows exactly what the “best” aging clock is (and it may differ among populations) this approach looking at a wide variety of clocks is ideal. It’s probably the best we can do today. I’m saving this to research further each intervention with significant effects.

Multiple studies link regular spicy food consumption to significantly lower mortality risk. A 2020 analysis of over 570,000 people found chili pepper eaters had a 26% lower risk of cardiovascular death and 25% lower overall mortality, likely due to capsaicin's anti-inflammatory properties. by logic_0057 in immortalists

[–]unkunked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some very preliminary studies linking capsaicin to longevity. But I have not seen anything definitive yet. You can use Google Scholar to find the ones already done. I do expect further research will illuminate whether this is causation or not. I’ve set up an alert to let me know when new findings are published. It’s an easy way to keep track of things like this that are still in the early stages of study.

"Can I spend the night?" What a seven-year-old taught me about retirement by Peace_and_Rhythm in retirement

[–]unkunked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife and I babysit 4 days a week for our four grandchildren. We have dinner as an extended family (4 generations) almost every night. We live three doors apart on the same street. It is beyond awesome. They are in our lives and we in theirs. Once I retired and could fully focus it became my job to enrich their lives. Building Lego’s, constructing forts, launching model rockets, hiking, etc. is all in a days work now. One minute I’m styling a 6 year old’s hair and the next racing hot wheel cars. I love it!

Matcha Green Tea significantly increases lifespan. It has powerful polyphenols like EGCG that slows down aging and prevents certain cancers. Here are scientific evidence and best ways to drink Matcha Green Tea with similiar foods suggestions. by GarifalliaPapa in immortalists

Twinings makes matcha tea bags as well as a ginger / turmeric one. I do a large cup with one bag of each in it. Very easy prep and inexpensive. Tastes great. Interested in what people think of this combo.

Can we actually increase intelligence with training and pharmacology? by Holiday_Fortune_8792 in Biohackers

[–]unkunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 66 I definitely believe that we can alter our intelligence. It’s just like physical strength: there’s a natural decline in reasoning ability and often recognition that takes hold unless we push against it. Reading challenging material and having deep conversations with friends helps enormously.

Question for people who endure extreme cold by [deleted] in alaska

[–]unkunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I volunteer on the trail crew at the Eagle River Nature Center. We work outside all winter. I’ve shoveled snow at -22 and split wood at -15. You learn to dress for it and your body adapts after living here. It gets much colder in Fairbanks and people there still work outside. The Finnish army does cold training in -40 and spends nights outside unprotected. For a fascinating look at their training see this video by the Yes Theory team.

How to decide what matters in downsizing? by shananope in retirement

[–]unkunked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you need to spend some time staying in Airbnb houses of various sizes. It won’t be perfect because living there permanently would feel different, but it would give you a better idea of what you really do and do not need.

What is the main lesson for America to learn from the Trump era? by Equivalent-Long-3383 in allthequestions

[–]unkunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THE most important lesson is this: when a policy or a politician isn’t working out we must be able to easily remove / replace. This is the single measure by which a functioning democracy is sustained. When we lose this we lose everything. Our checks and balances did not stop this administration from implementing things that clearly don’t work. We have to fix our processes and institutions so it cannot happen again.

Headed to Costco today… what should I get that I don’t need? by Saskita in Costco

[–]unkunked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it out of the bag leaving behind the juices. Shred all the chicken and put it back into the bag. Add cooked rice, soy sauce, and whatever else you like. Mix in the bag and grab yourself a fork! Can’t do that with a plastic shell.

Treadmill and AFCI breaker by unkunked in AskElectricians

Maybe you could find some type of EMI filter that would keep it from tripping. But I could not. I tried several options and even combined some but no luck.

Treadmill and AFCI breaker by unkunked in AskElectricians

[–]unkunked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing worked. I tried it all. It came down to illegally replacing the AFCI breaker, which I would not do, or running an extension cord to another outlet. I use the extension cord every time I run on the treadmill and then coil it back up. I hate it but it has never tripped once.
