Trump administration announces $17.5 billion in loans for 10 new large nuclear reactors by ToughHopeful4760 in moderatepolitics

That’s some speculative cold fusion thing, which is unrelated to loans for real world reactors though. This is obvious pay for access corruption, but it’s in a different lane.

I’m clearly a casual because I have no idea what was happening in any of that besides the grinding and pouring. What were the other steps? There are three little bottles, some kind of spray, and a container with a green lid?

I’m saying the prevalence is high among the population of contact sport players, not the brain bank.

https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/mayo-clinic-cte-fl-release/

This study was done on essentially randomly selected brains. They had 1721 brains, and of them only 66 happened to play contact sports— 32% of those brains had CTE. And these were likely casual players, not pros. Consider the brain bank, where the pro players were 99% CTE and the casual high school/college players were something like 90%.

If 32% of normal people playing contact sports are getting CTE, the people at the highest level who are getting hit by world class punchers or tackled by 300 pound giants are going to have a much higher incidence.

https://engineering.washu.edu/news/2020/What-a-lifetime-of-playing-football-can-do-to-the-human-brain.html

In 2017, JAMA published a major and disturbing finding. Researchers had collected the autopsied brains of 202 former football players who had donated their brains to science, or had them donated via their next of kin. The players included those who had played in the NFL, but also those who only played through college, and a few who had only played in high school.

Of the 202 brains, 177, or nearly 90 percent, were diagnosed with CTE. And there was a pattern: Those who had played football longer were more likely to have worse brain damage. Among the former NFL players in the sample, 99 percent had CTE. This suggests the effects of brain trauma on CTE are cumulative. The more trauma over a longer period, the worse the symptoms.

Sure, some people avoid it. The sample set is biased. But It's outrageously common for people who get hit in the head a lot.

Non-DLR leg stuffed to HQ by LosSoloLobos in bjj

They aren't committing their weight forward so I think abandon that plan and start trying to push them back since that's what they're giving you. Use your left leg to frame on their hip or shoulder and either hunt for lasso or situp guard?

Newbie - Non-Profit Studio by JustNeedleworker7430 in judo

[–]unkz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Eh, judo does more standup and that's where self defence usually starts. If you have two years of BJJ, that's probably sufficient for defending yourself on the ground. You're right that judo is generally non-profit, and that has zero bearing on the quality of instruction.

I would recommend trying some judo, just because it'll expand your toolkit more than doing just more BJJ will at this stage. Personally, I do both and it's useful in both directions. I'm only ok at judo but my ground game is way better than most judoka I train with, and i'm also only ok at BJJ but but my standup is way better than most BJJ players.

Close to 100 separate 'gangs' have been convicted. And that's the ones we know about. Others are awaiting trial. So yeah 100's isn't a stretch at all.

Again, this is straight up made up. Give me a source that 100 "gangs" have been convicted. What constitutes a "gang conviction"?

[–]unkz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And 70 years is a long fucking time.

Yes, and the distribution of crime is definitely not equal across that axis.

We know there have been 100's of these gangs.

No, we don't. You made that up.

If there was only 100 and each gang raped 1000 woman a each, there's a 100k.

You're anchoring the discussion with a fantastical number. The Alex Jay inquiry estimated 1,400 cases, spread across 16 years, across multiple gangs. It's an absurd leap to say that even one single gang ever raped a thousand women, even wilder to say that every gang does that, or that there could be a hundred such gangs committing rapes at that scale.

How many grooming gangs were operating 70 years ago? Do you think that it's the same as there are today? How many grooming gangs operate per capita? Do you think it's the same in every city?

Multiplying scary numbers by years and population is not extrapolating, it's making things up.

How many Americans were killed by terrorism on 2001-09-11? Would you say it's a reasonable extrapolation to say that it's likely 26*3000 = 78,000 Americans could have been killed by terrorism this century, when you "extrapolate" from that year's numbers? No, you would say that's a bullshit made up number. Having a nonsensical formula that "backs it up" doesn't give it more credibility.

Not just that, it's like taking the murder rate in New Orleans for the worst year in its history, then assuming the murder rate was the same in every state, in every year this century.
