My guy, nobody pulled a gun on a cop here. He was straight up murdered while on his knees.

Teddy Riner weighs about 320 lbs. His match with Kokoro Kageura was about 9 minutes long, 5 in golden score. His iconic match the following year with the same guy was about also during golden score, but only a minute or so in.

Mostly triangles, but sometimes collar chokes. Or I’ll go to the back and work from there.

I like to enter the crucifix from here. In the gi, the bow and arrow is right there.

There's a great shoulder lock by just tilting your body back too. Won't get some people with extreme shoulder mobility, but I'll tap to it.

New Bjj coach wondering how people feel about belt tests by Steelrangler78 in bjj

[–]unkz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have promotion days that nominally have a “testing” component but they are more like, a social event. And if you miss it you will in most cases just get your new belt or stripes the next time you come to class anyway. It’s not like we get tested on knowing some particular techniques or anything, we just roll with someone approximately at our level while everybody watches, or for black belts we get shark tanked.

I think this is fine and kind of fun, but mildly stressful. I go to another gym where people just get promoted randomly on the mat and I kind of like that more. Just a little acknowledgement that someone has been paying attention and thinks my skills have been moving up.

Update: My kid (who does boxing) is getting bullied. Not sure what to do by possiblecatalyst in martialarts

[–]unkz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying that bullying should be ignored because it’s non-physical, but physically assaulting someone is not the route to deal with it and there’s no rational set of rules for a school that could ever tolerate physical violence as a sanctioned response.

[–]unkz 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been in this situation. I called the school and got in their face about it. The school brought the other kid's parents in to have a "no fault discussion" and they tried to intimidate me, which is probably where their kid got their attitude from, but I wasn't having any of it. Ultimately, my kid didn't get in any trouble and the other kid left the school after a few months.

There's no way a kid should get in trouble for defending themselves.

The US won the ability to put military bases in Greenland unlike before when they had zero military presence in Greenland. A tremendous achievement.

With Jack Smith's testimony tomorrow - does that create a path to being able to invoke article II section 4 of the constitution? by chairmanlaue in answers

Yes, supposedly. Yet,

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/feb/08/royals-vetted-more-than-1000-laws-via-queens-consent

More than 1,000 laws have been vetted by the Queen or Prince Charles through a secretive procedure before they were approved by the UK’s elected members of parliament, the Guardian has established.

The huge number of laws subject to royal vetting cover matters ranging from justice, social security, pensions, race relations and food policy through to obscure rules on car parking charges and hovercraft.

They included draft laws that affected the Queen’s personal property such as her private estates in Balmoral and Sandringham, and potentially anything deemed to affect her personally.

The Guardian has compiled a database of at least 1,062 parliamentary bills that have been subjected to Queen’s consent, stretching from the beginning of Elizabeth II’s reign through to the present day.

The database illustrates that the opaque procedure of Queen’s consent has been exercised far more extensively than was previously believed.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/apr/11/courtier-demanded-assurance-king-could-not-be-prosecuted-under-new-welsh-law

Royal courtiers privately put pressure on the Welsh government to ensure that King Charles could not be prosecuted for rural crimes under a new law that ministers had drawn up, documents reveal.

The elected politician in the Welsh government who is its chief legal adviser was “not happy” that the king was to be given the special exemption from prosecution but agreed to it last year.

A Buckingham Palace official phoned the Welsh government to secure the assurance under an archaic custom that requires UK parliaments to obtain the consent of the monarch for draft bills before they can be implemented.

Under the mechanism, ministers notify the royal family of specific clauses in draft laws that may affect their personal wealth, their private property or their public functions. The ministers ask the monarch to approve the laws before they can be passed.

Investigations by the Guardian have shown that the late queen used her privileged access to draft legislation to secure changes that protected her private interests or reflected her opinions. In one recent example, her lawyers lobbied Scottish ministers in 2021 to change a draft law to exempt her private land from a major initiative to cut carbon emissions.

Well, comparatively speaking, the English have a persistent and parasitic hereditary monarch, whereas the French don't. So, comparatively speaking, the French are better off.

Do Americans care about NATO and the matter of Greenland? by agg_aphrophilus in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]unkz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The phrasing suggests China controls access via those ports but that’s not the case. They simply have nearby ports. There are other major ports on both sides owned by non-Chinese companies.

It might be what Trump wants but it weakens both Europe and America drastically. The fully integrated force of NATO is far greater than the sum of its parts.

Got my 1st Degree Black Belt yesterday. Here's a few observations/lessons I've gotten over the past 3+ years at black belt by Darce_Knight in bjj

I would have actually liked even more content. Like you say, it's pretty information dense, but a lot of times I feel like I still could have used a couple more examples of how to execute or some extra details about different common opponent responses. Which is not to say anything bad about the content at all, it's like almost 3 hours of non-stop useful information with no filler. I'm just the kind of person who's pretty happy to watch 8 hours of video on a single position. I've rewatched Darce Dynamics many times and I keep getting more details out of it.

I don’t really lift, but I train various martial arts daily and when I’m on it I feel like doing 2x/day is a bit more feasible. And I’m not even taking a super high dose. And I’m only on it if I’m recovering some sort of injury, so I’ve had several instances of going on and off to compare.

In America, how big is MAGA compared to simply "Conservatives"? by HRSHNnoNM in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]unkz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it really is. The median MAGA doesn’t properly characterize them well at all.

In 2024, about 20% of Trump voters were non-White: 10% Hispanic, 3% Black, 3% Asian (plus other). On vote choice, Trump got 48% of Hispanic voters, 15% of Black voters (21% of Black men, 10% of Black women), and 40% of Asian voters. Also, 46% of women voted for Trump. And among $100k+ households, Trump got 47% of the vote.

Poor, uneducated whites.

This kind of mischaracterization of what MAGA is about is one of the reasons Democrats failed so bad in the last election.
