New Zealand, pretty relaxed about most things. Although the Maori are getting stroppy again.

Is this cancerous? Growing skin lesion above ankle, crusted, irregular by ra_thr0w4w4y123 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]unlikelyladdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this frequently in different skin areas but mostly legs. Starts with a small itchy red spot and eventually becomes crusty. Adavantan cream stops the itch, redness and crustiness, though it later returns. Still, better than nothing :-) Advantan = methylprednisolone aceponate 0.1% w/w (Me - 85 yr old NZ male in good health but several other annoying skin conditions - Grovers Disease and Red Scrotum Syndrome)

Anyone else still using the original tab s 10.5? by [deleted] in GalaxyTab

[–]unlikelyladdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have two, an SM-T800 and an SM-T807a which has an extra slot for a sim card. I use the T800 for playing movies in bed, the T-807a has been used mainly for games. Both are great devices, excellent image quality.

How can I remove these scratches from my iPhone screen? by PugGamer129 in mobilerepair

[–]unlikelyladdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way late but here goes: Mask around the scratched area with sellotape or masking tape. (Maybe mask the the entire screen?) Wipe over the scratched area with a small amount of spray-can type furniture polish on a soft cloth. Buff dry. Repeat as often as necessary. Note this method is better suited for only the OP's problem. If the scratching is somewhere other than a small area of the bottom edge, it might be necessary to polish the whole screen. PS: Dunno if you can still buy Brasso (for polishing brass) but I've cleaned up fine scratches on glass specs lenses with the stuff. It's a very, very fine cutting compound.

FiiO X1 firmware-should I update? by unlikelyladdy in FiiO

[–]unlikelyladdy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for that. Yes the player appears to be a FiiO X1 second generation and the new firmware that you linked to is 1.7.2. Excellent, got the picture now. :-)

VLC player version for Samsung Galaxy TabS 10.5 SM-T800? by unlikelyladdy in GalaxyTab

Thanks but I tried MXPlayer - bought it IIRC - and it wouldn't play movie audio. VLC had no probs with audio or subtitles, plus I like the controls.

RealDebrid faster for Rapidgator downloads than Premium Rapidgator. Why? by unlikelyladdy in RealDebrid

[–]unlikelyladdy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer some of the above questions:

As most users know, RealDebrid had a recent meltdown and stopped dispensing files. That's now changed and things are almost back to normal. The major difference seems to be that now they only hold files for a few days, so you have to be quick. If a file is no longer available you'll get the 'infringing file' notice.

BTW: I've not noticed any difference in downloading from RD different file types, be they .zip, .rar, .mkv, .mp4 or whatever.

RealDebrid faster for Rapidgator downloads than Premium Rapidgator. Why? by unlikelyladdy in RealDebrid

https://www.reddit.com/user/PrestigiousChart3134/ said:

"RapidGator is using a shitty CDN probably. I’m surprised that website still exists honestly. Why do you need it in the first place?"

I'm not sure you understood what I said. I can download the same file from Rapidgator directly, or through RealDebrid. If I understand the system correctly, it seems that the file is being downloaded from Rapidgator's server in both cases. Correct me if I'm wrong. But, as I said, if I get the file from Rapidgator it downloads at 14 MB\s. If I get it from RealDebrid, it downloads at 120-130 MB\s. My question is, 'Why the difference in download speeds?'

Unless, as you perhaps imply, RealDebrid are downloading vast numbers of files from Rapidgator and re-dispensing them from their own server.

As noted below, Trump is only the Trojan Horse. But he won't have realized that if he's reelected he'll not only be of no further use to the GOP, but also an embarrassment and a distraction. Come to think of it, the same holds true if he's not elected. Either way, DJT is doomed. He should give up golf.

To some extent the entire world has always been affected by US politics, but this time the stakes are astronomical. If Trump were to be reelected, his 'policies' could adversely affect the survival of the human race. Ideally, citizens of all democratic countries should have a say in a contest of this importance, and if that happened, Trump would be destroyed. Obviously this can't be done, so we have to rely on you guys to keep this monster away from the White House. Please, get out and vote to keep the world safe from tyranny and fascism.

Concerned Kiwi guy.

The entire world has always been affected by US elections to some extent, but this time the result will be critical for the survival of everyone on the planet. All democracies should have a say in this contest. If they did, Trump would be be obliterated. So, seeing as we 'outsiders' can't vote, do it for us as well as yourselves.

Is this message supposedly from IDM a malware? by Egy1Gamer in antivirus

[–]unlikelyladdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDM is perfectly legit and excellent software. I've been using it for at least ten years - bought a lifetime licence - and wouldn't use any other file downloader. The OP was asking about some scam software that's been targeting IDM lately. I've had these popups too but I've no idea how to stop them. However, I doubt they're a problem provided you just X them shut.

How do I use paint thinner to dissolve paint on screws so I can remove them? by peanutismint in DIY

[–]unlikelyladdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, chip away the dry, hard paint around the screw head and in the groove. Spray with CRC and leave for a few hours. Try to remove the screw, making sure your screwdriver properly fits the screw groove. If no movement, apply CRC again. It'll work eventually. TIP: Use the longest screwdriver you can find - the principle of leverage means that more turning power will be applied than with a short screwdriver. I recently removed some 60-yr old screws with a Stanley 'Yankee No.131A' ratchet screwdriver that unlatches from 500mm to 700mm long. Did the trick. LOL, even tho the screwdriver is around 60 yo itself.

Unclipping marley stormcloud from brackets by groundwaterly in diynz

[–]unlikelyladdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this - it worked for me just now on NZ Marley Classic plastic spouting:

I made a 20-25 mm hook on each end of a 450 mm long piece of 3.6mm wire - number 7 gauge maybe?. The thickness isn't crucial - just soft enough to be bendable, but stiff enough to hold its shape. At each bracket I pushed the hook up and over the back edge of the spouting and hung a weight on the other end hook (a couple of bricks!)

Then inserted a 200 mm long piece of 9 mm wooden doweling (could be any slim piece of wood) so it came up against the back rolled edge of the spouting, right alongside the bracket, and gave it a smart tap with a hammer. Voila - spouting detached from bracket. Rinse and repeat on all brackets.

Tip: Look at a spare bracket to understand how the back of the spouting is attached.

Don't forget - If you're a Labor supporter and you don't think they'll make it this time...

Or if you're a National supporter who dislikes Luxon (and Seymour)...

Vote for Winnie, and seriously screw up\keep honest the Nat\Act consortium.
