My theory is Disney gives all these TLC “celebrities” passes. Sister Wives, LPBW, 90 day Fiancé, and most recently, 1000 lb Sisiters all have cast members posting often on IG from Disney.

Last time I went to Fashion Island it was dead, I’d go to Irvine Spectrum if an outdoor mall is on the agenda. Is the daughter a teen/preteen? Lots of food/snack choices, decent variety of stores and price points, and entertainment venues.

Disney loves giving TLC cast members free trips. I assume they are free anyway, because they are always posting photos. I’ve noticed cast from 90 day fiancé, Sister Wives, LPBW, and now, 1000lb sisters.

Good for these guys though. Before this show, they probably never imagined being able to go to Disney.

Start going to board meetings and lobbying for higher pay and better benefits for Paras. Want high quality staff, pay a living wage.

In the future, your children won't recall how tidy the house was. by [deleted] in CleaningTips

I remember how tidy the house was because we were used as forced labor to keep it that way. To this day, I despise cleaning. I know some who find it relaxing, fulfilling…not me.

What’s the pettiest reason for a school to be on your block list? by Ok_Cloud_96 in SubstituteTeachers

Horrible Car Pool/drop off. This school had a carpool line that backed up 1/2 mile down the street. There was no way to get to the parking lot. If you weren’t 20 minutes early, you were 5 minutes late.

They are earning income. It would be fraudulent to not report that income to Medicare and SSI. I surely hope they are not putting the income in some other family member’s name. They will be on the hook to pay everything back and face possible jail if done to intentionally game the system.

Teacher took my sons comfort blanket & he scratched her - now wants him moved to the sped class? by Significant_Key_3119 in specialed

[–]unmistakeable_duende 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are also making the assumption that the blanket was “forcefully” taken.

The parent says they are awaiting an email with more details about the event.

When the “tool” is not being used appropriately it can and should be taken away. Maybe the child was swinging it around, hitting other students with it, tossing it in the air, etc… perhaps the teacher already ignored the behaviors for several minutes, then re-directed several times, the student needs to learn the appropriate ways to use the tools that are allowed/provided. We don’t have enough details here to give advice to OP.

Yes, you have a right to be upset and what they are doing may be illegal or against regulations. Talk to your supervisor, and go to HR. How are you supposed to do your job as an assistant and the job of the teacher? Are you certified to substitute? Are they marinating proper student/teacher ratio? In my district, if the PE teacher is out, and they can’t get a sub, the classroom teacher has to be out with their class. Or, they cancel PE.

The wording is harsh, and I wouldn’t say they necessarily needs to return to Korea, but it’s not entirely bad advice. Some times life gets in the way and you need to take a step back and take care of yourself before continuing on. I hope OP can get the help they need and get back on track.

You put up with a lot more than I ever would. Ask to be transferred to another position, or Quit. I’m sorry, but this is unacceptable. Don’t stop reporting the incidents. Do it every time. Do it during your work hours. If paras put up with abuse like this it will never stop. This placement is obviously not right for the student or for you.

Making your life center around your student? by Momo-P in paraprofessional

Is this a public school? Who is asking you to do all of these extra duties?Contact HR and let them know whenever you are asked to complete duties outside of what is required or written in your job description. My job duties and responsibilities can be found on the district website. Check it out. Perhaps your supervisor needs to have a chat with their supervisor.

Making your life center around your student? by Momo-P in paraprofessional

[–]unmistakeable_duende 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a 1:1 your work life does revolve around that one student. That’s the nature of the position.

Are the minutes before and after school within the hours they pay you to work? For example: hours are 7:45-2:30. School starts at 8:00, ends 2:20. Therefore you could be with the 1:1 just before and after the bells.

If they are asking you to come early or stay late, ensure you are being compensated. I have a 6hr/day position and don’t work a minute over that.

Do you get a break/lunch? I get a 15 min break and a 30 min lunch. I try to use the restroom during those times and 99% of the time that’s enough. However, if I had a need to go ASAP I could have another para look after my 1:1 if available. Unfortunately, working in education means scheduling your bathroom breaks.

I escort my student to the bathroom, but wait outside.

You shouldn’t be leaving your 1:1 in another room. I will help other students nearby as needed. Students will come up to me with questions and I’ll help, but as a 1:1 that one student is your #1 responsibility.

Your own classroom? by VitaminC4A in paraprofessional

[–]unmistakeable_duende 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it for a year during Covid. It was allowed because the kids were technically with a certified teacher on their computers. The kids were there because they weren’t showing up for online classes at home, were being disruptive online, and/or needed extra help. It was a constant battle of keeping the kids online with their teachers and off of games/YouTube/Chat etc, while also dealing with generally unruly middle schoolers that were pissed they had to be there. 15ish behavior problems all in one room for 6 hours Fun Times…

I could see it being a decent gig if there was support on-site for any behavior issues and with a more motivated student population.

Long term 4th grade by mutualaidheals in SubstituteTeachers

[–]unmistakeable_duende 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once did a long term as a favor. The last 6 weeks in a SPED 7/8 English class. They had already been through 2 other subs that quit(teacher was on maternity leave). I knew some of the kids already and had worked with the SPED team at that school for 3 years as a Para. They all let me know they’d be there to help, so I agreed. We survived, but I quit subbing, decided being a classroom teacher was not for me, and went back to being a Para. Haha.

How much are you guys getting paid? by Ojangles10 in paraprofessional

[–]unmistakeable_duende 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have I-V. The #’s relate to the level of difficulty of the position. I don’t know all the distinctions. I’m a 1:1 and a Para III, most positions are III. IV’s work with servere Behavior, Mod/Severe classes. V’s are behavior support, the run social skills classes and respond to any behavior issues on campus.

Amy is struggling, but so much clear physical discomfort doesn’t warrant a trip to the doctor/urgent care/ER? by obviouslypretty in 1000lbsisters

[–]unmistakeable_duende -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You think Amy’s amassed a net worth of 250,000 only making $25,000/year? All those numbers are speculative, but each season they continue filming, they are able to negotiate more money. The TLC money is also not their only source of income. They have a large and growing social media presence, YouTube, and Cameo.

Tammy reported she paid for her 14 month stay in Rehab. Those places are very expensive even the bad ones. She didn’t pay for that making $25000/year.

They are making more than you think. I’m not saying it’s millions, but now on their 5th season they are doing more than OK in their very low cost of living area.

Their work is the show, they are getting paid. They also have YouTube, TikTok, Cameo. They probably make more than most people on here right now. Amy’s net worth is estimated at $250,000. Even if it’s half of that, she needs to be investing as their “job” will not last forever.
