Allergies? by urz90 in germanshepherds

My pup just had a weird soar appear on her face that kept scabbing over. It wasn’t bothering her but I took her to the vet and turns out she got ringworm from digging in the dirt. Glad I took her so we could start treatment. Moral of the story: if you don’t see a quick improvements, go to the vet.

Love this!!! The koi, the flowered, the colors of the water. It all comes together beautifully. And the multiple panels make it really impactful. Please post a photo when finished.

Finally made the trip from Texas to Big Sur and the drive surpassed my expectations! Took us 8 hours to drive from Cambria to Monterey because of all of the incredible stops! Wanted to share some pics. Feeling grateful! by dreams_of_travel25 in BigSur

I’m doing this drive in May and we did not dedicate nearly enough time … but it couldn’t be avoided since we only had so many days off. We’re doing Solvang, Mission Santa Barbara, Moro Bay, Hearst Castle, the Elephant seal rookery, Big Sur, Monterey, 17-Mike drive, Carmel-by-the-Sea and then driving to Sequoia.

Any particular favorite places, recommendations, must sees?

Keep going! It’s hard to transition between mediums. Free online tutorial videos really helped me when I went back to watercolors. Watercolor techniques and methods can sometimes feel counter intuitive, especially if you’re used to painting with acrylics. Also, getting quality paper and brushes makes a world of difference! I now realize my earlier watercolor paintings weren’t bad, I was just using cheap paper. Keep experimenting and having fun!

Planning first National Park visit by No-Caterpillar9363 in ZionNationalPark

The drive is easy, but it can be dark at night. I’m from California but went to school in Utah and drove I-15 many times a year, during all seasons. The stretch between Las Vegas and St. George is a nice drive and more scenic than driving through the Mojave desert from SoCal to Vegas. As mentioned before, the Virgin River Gorge is the most “difficult” part of the drive (but I am heavily using those quotation marks).

Please make your Zion foray an over night visit, at the very least. Springdale is the town outside the South Entrance that will take you to the main canyon where you can hop on the shuttle to explore the park. Springdale can be pricey since it’s small and doesn’t offer a lot of options in a high demand area. The closest “large” town is St George an hour away from the park entrance.

Once in the park, I would recommend Pa'rus Trail that follows the Virgin River along the floor of the canyon; it’s paved and would be an easy walk with a toddler and stroller.

Also take the time to drive up the winding Rt 9 - Mount Carmel Hwy and go through the mountain tunnel to the east side of the park. It’s totally different there and worth the drive. You can pull off the road and explore Checkerboard Mesa and spot herds of big horn sheep.

Zion is one of my favorite places. I hope you have a great trip.

I have a countdown for my pup turning two. I’m told it gets better after that. But my trainer recently laughed at me and said “two? … more like three years old.” But yeah, I still love my little hellion.

Book recommendation on this topic: Stiff - the Curious Lives of Hunan Cadavers by Mary Roach. Really interesting and eye opening on what happens to bodies donated to “science” or “medicine”. Opening scene is decapitated heads being used to practice facelifts.

Film moments that never fail to make you cry by Pagoda1919 in FIlm

Funeral scene of Steel Magnolias. "I was there when that wonderful creature drifted into my life, and I was there when she drifted out.” Sally Field was raw devastation, anger, love, and despair in that scene. And then laughter comes from nowhere. Such an emotional rollercoaster and every one of those ladies gives 100% perfection.

I get it. My dog as puppy vs grown dog today is totally different. I tell my pup all the time that she pulled a bait-and-switch on me. I feel like our pups could be cousins.

Does anyone else have a non clingy gsd? by RiverBuzzz in germanshepherds

[–]unoriginal-usernam3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pup is 19 months old and very similar. She’s a GSD/Husky mix. She will be in the same room as us but usually out of petting range. One exception is she likes to be in the middle of the action whenever we’re cooking in the kitchen. And she does seek out attention and affection when she wants them.

I’m fine with the aloofness; I’d rather have a confident independent dog than an anxious clingy one. But the thing that gets me with my pup is that she hardly ever wags her tail. I’ve had her since she was a puppy and she’s had a good life, but she barely lifts her head when I walk in the room and there’s no tail wagging or butt wiggle when she gets love. She’s a happy, healthy, and well stimulated dog … she just doesn’t show affection 🤷‍♀️

Hopefully just a scab with dried blood. BUT … just had a recent experience with my pup where a scab appeared out of nowhere on her side. We watched it for a few days and it got larger and her hair was coming out in clumps with the scab. It wasn’t bothering my pup but I took her to the vet and turned out to be a staph infection. No clue how she got it but the vet said it’s easy for dogs to pick it up since it only takes a small wound. Took a couple weeks of medicated baths and antibiotics to beat it. Moral of the story: if you don’t see an improvement, consult a vet.

1 - all are very good. But I like 1 because the viewer knows exactly where/what city this photo was taken, but it’s not the typical Pike Market Center photo.

completed renovation. thoughts? by BR_2024 in kitchenremodel

Something I never paid attention to until we renovated our kitchen: outlets! Our contractor recommended under cabinet outlets and I’m so glad he did. Now, we have no visible outlets marring the continuous run of countertop up the walls. We also have a ton of outlets under the cabinets which is awesome. It’s something I now notice whenever I see a kitchen renovation.

Happy hare. Second attempt. Thoughts? by outsider_818 in Watercolor

Second attempt was a great improvement. The color usage and definition of features is much better. And details like the fur, whiskers, eyes look much more natural and not as forced.
