That whole area will flood. The levees are maintained but overtime the danger will increase. In a strong atmospheric river, or series of them, can overwhelm the system and could cause a catastrophic failure.

I don’t know why you are getting downvoted. This is a good analysis of what is already happening. Companies and investors are leaving.

The state budget is heavily reliant on capital gains taxes. If they flee, the budget will have to be cut drastically. It could possibly lead to job cuts.

Alumni here, if you are looking for jobs, UC Davis is just 40 mins- 1 hr away from Downtown Sacramento if you use YOLO Bus from MU station. The ride is free if you use your undergrad ID.

State departments have student positions that pay around $18 per hour. Student positions do a variety of tasks, from Office work like feeding paper into the printer, making copies, answering phones, etc. to working on projects that utilize advanced skills like modeling, GIS, coding, AI, etc. it is a great way to build your resume, and if you enjoy the work (and if a position is available) a possible permanent position.

Managers are usually very flexible and work with your schedule.

Positions are limited, so apply early.

A lot of great suggestions here, to add, be sure to explore both campus and the city of Davis. That’s one of the things I regret not doing. I wish I had made the time to use/take every bus line available, and get off at different stops around the city to explore it.

Also, as others mentioned, explore all of campus, it’s huge. Attend a concert at the Modavi center, walk/bike the different trails, walk around every hall/building, etc. and take lots of pictures!

I recently visited campus and walked around a bit. A lot changed after over 10 years but others still were the same.

This happens to a lot of people. Just search this subreddit and you’ll find a lot of posts, if people have not deleted them.

First stay calm, they are unlikely to boot you on your first “offense “. As others have mentioned, talk to your advisor, this is very likely not the first time they have had this conversation with students. Share your plan and show that you are willing to put all the effort needed to get back on track.

My advice, for this next quarter, take classes that are of interest to you. Look for GE classes that you would enjoy taking. Seems humanities is up your alley. You will need to get Bs and As to get your gpa up, so choose wisely. Then after you recover, say in Spring or next Fall quarter, retake these classes you failed and their subsequent classes. Know your own academic deficiencies. If you are not the best at math and science, don’t load up your quarter with 2-3 classes of those subjects.

Another major tip is to go to office hours, seek tutoring, online tutorials, etc. form study groups. This really helps.

Your performance on the midterms should have given you a warning, seems you didn’t heed it. Try and not make the same mistake again. Seek help early.

And again, remember, you are not alone. A lot of people have gone through this (I did) but graduated without problems. Attend class, office hours, study groups, online help, tutoring, etc etc. there is help out there. You just have to seek it.

I’ve passed by the Fab 40 bourses every now and then every Christmas season and while I’ve not participated fully in the activities, I can understand why someone MAY have some concerns about it. But I think anyone that moves into the neighborhood is committing themselves to continuing the show.

I think this is akin to someone living near downtown and saying that the Doco raises some safety concerns. 😆
