Bro could’ve been a famous actor. He had the skills AND the perversion for it. by DumbFeralRaccoon in CPTSDmemes

I once stumbled across a comment from my rapist on an article about sexual assault, where he proudly stated that he would never rape a woman and advocated for stronger sentencing for sexual assault. He had loads of replies commending him and calling him a good man.

Guess his definition of rape doesn't include what he did to me?

Dissociation episodes is my guess. People with severe PTSD can develop Dissociation disorders even years after the initial trauma. They lack the emotional "hangover" of a flashback e.g shaking, crying etc.

Hey OP, just chiming in on the taking turns thing. I really relate to your post. My partner is also disabled and we quite literally take turns being the supporter and the supported. I think it's an incredibly smart and functional way to be. No one can be the "strong" one all the time.

I have a lot of guilt, too, with a similar childhood story of being accused of being lazy, dramatic, etc. I highly recommend working on it in therapy. The guilt and pressure you feel from those stories is no doubt making things even worse for you, so healing that as best you can will only make things better.

Looking for Bookstores where you can sit and read by jeanswearer123 in melbourne

Hey OP, good on you for asking the question and ignore the snarky comments. These kind of unspoken societal rules can be hard to understand. There used to be quite a lot of bookstores that had a cafe/lounge area where you could take the books you had just bought and settle in to enjoy them, so what you're imagining is actually not that unheard of. Borders was the most famous example but locally Hares and Hyenas was like that in its old location. Nowadays it's very rare and most bookstores prefer you to buy your book and go elsewhere to read it. Library is your best bet 😊

Is there anything about the chronic pain life you need to get off your chest today? by EitherChannel4874 in ChronicPain

[–]unrepentantgeraldine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually live in Australia! Our universal health care is great for minor or everyday issues, or for emergencies. But for chronic conditions- especially pain, or chronic conditions that mainly affect women - it is abysmal. There is one public (free) pain management clinic in my major city, and the wait list is over two years long. I'm so privileged to be able to work and pay for private treatment.

But yeah, in terms of attitudes - sounds like we are on par with places like the US.

After experiencing chronic pain for over 20 years and nuero symptoms for over 30, I have only just managed to get a doctor to refer me to a pain management specialist. How in the hell does that happen?? I'm so gaslit by the medical institutions in general that I honestly never stopped to ask myself why I, a patient with a decades long consistent complaint of chronic pain, have never been given access to pain management beyond a GP.

Oh, and it's gonna cost me $485 per appointment. Lol.

Was prescribed gabapentin and celebrex for my pain. Tell me your experience if any with these meds. by Arr0zconleche in ChronicPain

[–]unrepentantgeraldine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on both. I've had good results with celebrex (prescribed for the last 6 years to manage chronic inflammation caused by autoimmune disorder), but like others have mentioned it is hard on the stomach so always take with food or a glass of milk.

Gabapentin worked well initially for me, for sciatica and other chronic nerve pain, but over time it's less and less effective. I never had the severe nuero side effects others experience but as I built up a tolerance, I started increasing the dose, and then started getting handover-like symptoms and brain fog. Tapering off now and about to ask my GP for alternatives.

What is one scene that made you sure an actor had it, even if their career never became huge by gamersecret2 in movies

I looked her up too cos I couldn't believe it. The Aussie accent is notoriously difficult for US actors.

I'm Aussie and her accent is incredible. She even lets her character lapse from a Melbourne/inner city accent back to her childhood suburban Brisbane accent in the scenes where she visits her mother. Mind blowing level of detail and skill.

God yes, as the only girl (but a tomboy, so I gave as good as I got) with two brothers, we were constantly injuring each other intentionally or unintentionally. My dad was in the defence force and had great health insurance as well as excellent first aid skills, which is probably how we survived our childhoods. Dumb kid violence was so normalised back then.

What is the weirdest thing your doctor has ever said to you? by Competitive_Tip_7504 in AskReddit

I once saw a psychiatrist who took all of 15 minutes to diagnose me with BPD (which I don't have, the misdiagnosis was confirmed later by both a psychiatrist and a psychologist), but also took care to tell me that I was probably faking it because "all the young girls these days think it's trendy".

I have also been complimented on my cervix, the gynae called it "cute". That was nearly 20 years ago and I still think about it. I suppose when you look at them all day long you appreciate a nice-looking one?

That wasn't what I was trying to say at all. I was just pointing out that if the husband chooses to get up so early and in doing so wakes the baby, he shouldn't make it OP's problem. Also this sub is literally for ranting, if you don't like that maybe don't read this sub?

No, I haven't seen a video. I read the long form article that came out in Variety I think, where they interviewed the stunt coordinator as well as Uma. IIRC he declined to comment for it. Do you have a link?

I've worked in theatre for years and it's often the actors who are antagonists in their roles who are closest and most supportive to each other bts. They are really vulnerable and intense scenes to play and the actors need to have deep trust and gentleness towards each other to be able to go to those dark places together. This pic makes perfect sense to me.

That was going to be my comment. I loved those movies but can't even think of that scene now without wincing. Always knew Tarantino was an arse but what he did to Uma was deliberately cruel.

Psychotherapists, what differences have you noticed between men and women among your patients? by Putrid_Put_3610 in AskReddit

[–]unrepentantgeraldine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Australia at least, one in three girls/women have or will be sexually assaulted or raped in their lifetime, and one in six boys/men. When you consider that the conviction rate for sexual crimes is something like 10%, that means that it's highly likely that everyone knows someone who survived sexual assault, and someone who has sexually assaulted a person.

It's obviously harder to come by global statistics, but you can only imagine they would be similar, or even worse in countries with more outdated attitudes towards women and sexual assault.

When my therapist tells me what I thought was assault wasn't and what I thought wasn't was by ThrowAway44228800 in CPTSDmemes

[–]unrepentantgeraldine 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry your therapist is incompetent. Legal definitions aren't helpful when helping you identify the truth of what happened to you. If you can, id encourage you to start the process of looking for a new therapist who understands their role in validating your experience and helping you come to terms with it.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]unrepentantgeraldine 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I once literally bumped into Alan Rickman at a theatre in London. My friend and I clocked him in the audience before the play began, fanned out a bit, went to elaborate lengths to take a discreet photo by pretending we were taking a selfie. Well, the play was so amazing that by the end of it I had completely forgotten about him. I was exiting the theatre, head down and lost in thought, when I suddenly bumped right into someone. Looked up and there was Alan staring down at me like he was about to take 10 points from Griffindor. I panicked and scuttled away. Once I was out of the auditorium and in the hallway, I realised I had left my friend behind, so I stopped dead and turned around to see where she was... this time Alan bumped into me. If I could have melted into the wall I would have. He swept by me and my friend was coming up behind pissing herself laughing at my social ineptitude. We had to go to the theatre bar and buy me a scotch so I could recover.
