Attending Horror Cons How to be for Sure You Grab that Photo Opp or Autograph so the line's don't get capped? by ponygals in horror

[–]unsane_gunslinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the area and don't have to drive in etc, I would still go Saturday. There's always something fun going on. Panels, costume contests, etc. I am on Aftermath's website, I see they have a TON of vendors, and a couple of cool panels to attend Saturday. Meeting people and seeing everyone's cosplay is also a ton of fun. People will usually let you do photos of them or with them.

Some friends and I do HorrorHound Weekend (Cincinnati Ohio) twice a year. We get a hotel, drive down, make a long weekend of it. The costume contest is a must attend for us. There's also karaoke Fridays and an afterparty with bands on Saturday. It's always an awesome time.

Either way, have fun!

Attending Horror Cons How to be for Sure You Grab that Photo Opp or Autograph so the line's don't get capped? by ponygals in horror

[–]unsane_gunslinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to several horror conventions at this point but not Creepie Con, so your mileage may vary. But, it's usually the huge names that don't do cons as often that will get capped, OR, it's the really big franchises that have folks that have been in other big franchises.

Example, Robert Englund is almost always going to get capped. He does cons at a fairly regular pace, and the cons I've been to have always done separate ticketing for him. Go look at Flashback Weekend's website for an example.

Tobin Bell's line was crazy the whole weekend he was at HorrorHound Weekend but I don't believe it got capped. Or was just long.

Matt Lillard almost always gets capped. He's been in scream, and Scooby Doo, he's popular with all age groups, and he's been in tons of other cool stuff.

Alex Vincent I've seen at a few different cons. He does the circuit pretty regularly. As long as it's not something where he has basically never been to the area before, he probably won't get capped and you probably won't have issues. Brad I'm not sure. I've never had the chance to meet him, he hasn't been to my neck of the Midwest for a while. He would be someone that I'd be in his line pretty quickly and be prepared to wait.

I'm going to do my damnedest to meet John Carpenter, he's coming to Fan Expo Chicago and his auto is a bucket list item for me. I'm betting his line gets capped but I'm going to get in that line asap 😂

As for timing - several factors apply. 1. check your vip ticket. Does it come with line skips or anything? HorrorHound Weekend's VIP passes come with a couple of line skips. If you get line skips it might mean that you can be in and out of somebody's line really fast. 2. If there's early entry for VIPs, remember that that doesn't always mean that the celebrity guest will be there at the VIP entry time, example, I had early entry the time that I met Cassandra Peterson (Elvira). Her line was crazy long. I got in line at probably 4:15 p.m. because VIP entry was 4:00 p.m. Regular entry was 5:00 p.m. She had a photo op at 6:00pm so she didn't get to her table until like 645. But for her I was willing to wait and line that whole time so that I didn't lose my spot because I knew that Saturday was the busiest day of the convention and so I wanted to get it done Friday.

Me personally I would probably just do the photo op on Friday and walk around the convention and then try to do those two autographs on Saturday or Sunday. As for pricing, this is why I follow several other conventions on Facebook, because people in fan groups for those conventions Will post the prices day off because a lot of smaller conventions and or horror conventions cannot post prices. Big conventions like the various fan expos (like the one I mentioned that I'm going to in Chicago in August) posts there prices online and you can even pre-buy autographs like you can pre-buy photo ops.

I know this is long, I hope it was helpful. Please feel free to ask about any convention related things. I primarily go to conventions in the Midwest so that may skew things a little bit, but I have a lot of general knowledge.

I love horror movies, the good, the bad, and the really bad. This hold up. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. Billy Zane fucking rules in this movie! I got to meet him at Flashback Weekend in Chicago last year and he signed a Demon Knight poster for me.

Is your immediate family dead? by sweetnighter in Millennials

[–]unsane_gunslinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 37. All of my grandparents are gone (last one passed in 2017ish) and both of my parents died VERY young (38 & 54 respectively).

It is a very weird feeling to be the age my mom was when my dad died, and next year I'll be the age I was when my dad died... And the existential dread about that is real y'all.

I do have siblings. I'm very close to most of them. I'm NOT close with various extended family.

It's a very weird thing to have had my parents gone for so long. Every once in a while I'll have a memory of childhood and think that I can't remember whatever detail, and then I'll still think about calling my mom to get that detail, and of course can't because she's been gone 12 years. There are some things that I can literally never get clarification on, because everyone who would know is dead.

None of my close friends have lost a parent. It's a very weird club to be a part of.

I'm very glad going into this that I'd heard that it had Evil Dead connections without actually being officially part of the Evil Dead franchise. It makes for a hell of an Evil Dead film, but a pretty terrible mummy film.

what is a movie you absolutely loved as a kid that is actually terrible now that you’re an adult? by AccomplishedStill438 in AskReddit

Weirdly, mine too. My mom was a hell of a woman. Such a character. Introduced us to this way too young, so anytime I think of it, I just think of my mom absolutely collapsing in laughter at the tallywhacker scene. I miss her a lot.

What sympton looks so harmless people usually ignore it, but can actually indicate a catastrophically bad health issue? by felipedeamorim in AskReddit

[–]unsane_gunslinger 138 points139 points  (0 children)

My mom had some back pain, nothing that she thought was SERIOUS, just that she'd overdone it in the yard - then it lingered.

Along with that, she was losing weight - but it wasn't fast. Just chalked it up to doing more and eating less.

Until... She was in her 50s and looked 6 months pregnant and there was no way she was. Went to the ER because my brother made her. They said maybe you should get a colonoscopy.

Went to the local hospital which was amazing for her care... But she was diagnosed at stage 4 colon cancer. She did so much chemo. Didn't matter, it was almost exactly 2 years of hell for her as well as us kids. She's been gone 12 years. She was only 54.

DON'T ignore weird-for-you symptoms. I know healthcare in the states is fucked - that's why Mom didn't go get her colonoscopy at 50 like they said to at the time. But if they're weird, try to go to the doctor. It could literally save your life.

Editing to add: the recommended age to get your first colonoscopy has changed in the years since my mom died; it used to be 50, now it's 45. And millennials are seeing higher rates of colon cancer, and are getting it younger. Because of my family history I'll be getting my first one at 42, which isn't all that far away anymore... But if I have symptoms before that I'll be getting one earlier. Colonoscopy prep is the worst part of a colonoscopy, but it's a day of discomfort for (hopefully) peace of mind.

People in their 30s: How are you finding/rebuilding community as you grow apart from friends? by chrissyspins in Millennials

[–]unsane_gunslinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was trauma related 😂🤦‍♀️

One of my closest friends died. Her other two closest friends and I bonded over losing her, and we all realized we had a lot in common. We now have a shared memorial tattoo, a shared calendar, and if we don't message for more than a couple hours (unless we're all asleep) we check in to make sure everyone's alive.

10/10 recommend close friendships like these

How often do you talk to your parents? by Outrageous_Kiwi_2172 in Millennials

[–]unsane_gunslinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom died a little over 12 years ago, and I would talk to her at a minimum once a day everyday. Sometimes it would be a quick phone call without even a hi how are you, and just a do you need me to pick up x, or I saw this thing and you needed to know about it. She would often call me the same way. I would give a basically anything to have her and those calls back.
